Had visited the cinema last year and I enjoyed a film in Screen 1. This time in Screen 2. Great sound and comfortable environment. Well worth catching a film screening here.

To be told that the card reader is out if order. Missed start of film. Forced to pay full price rubbish service . Seems to be kids running it

This community run cinema is great. Comfy seats, good range of movies and lovely staff, most of whom are volunteers. Sure you could hire or buy a DVD of the movie for less than it costs to take your family but to see a movie on the big screen and hear the laughs and just be part of the buzz when the kids are loving a movie is priceless.

Comfortable seats good sound system. Good choice of films. Will definitely be back when in Oban again. Only downside is the ladies toilets, quite small (one toilet is very small).

Comfortable seat and speakers at a reasonable level. Booked seats in advance due to demand. Community cinema which needs support.

On my annual pre-Christmas break to Oban I was delighted to be able to see Murder On The Orient Express at the small but smashingly formed Oban Phoenix Cinema. With two studios, one seating 146 and the other just 22 this is the loveliest, happiest cinema I've ever visited.
As I entered, the tiny foyer was a scene of cheery, good-natured chaos as one studio emptied and crowds and queues gathered in anticipation of the next Star Wars screening and one of the final showings of my chosen film.
We waited patiently, hugging our supplies of sensibly-priced snacklets, while the weeny studio was hoovered.
Once in, I settled into my narrower than usual but perfectly comfy seat, and wallowed in the cosy ambience. I felt I was in the company of friends, of good souls, and this warm n' fuzzy feeling lasted throughout the film.
My companions (from teens to octagenarians) were perfectly well-behaved, the only sound being a contented and considerately closed-mouth maceration of popcorn to my right. Rather than being irritating, I found this added to my sense of well-being and peace.
Aaah, here was a little spot in the world where all was well.
I think that being in closer proximity to our companions than usual encouraged good conduct, and propose that all swanky soul-less multiplexes eschew their deluxe throne-like seats for something more compact and humble. I'm sure behaviour would improve!
To conclude, I fell in love with this very special place at once - it is a small venue with an enormous heart, conceived and managed by people who love film, for people who love film. Thanks to everyone involved.
Anyone visiting Oban, please do take a seat and enjoy. What a treat....

This is a cinema for and by the community, where only a small number of the 'staff' are paid while most are regular volunteers. The main screen is amazing with superb surround sound and super comfortable seats - certainly not what our many visitors expected from a local cinema. It's quite new so still very many things are in development - and the great thing is that everyone who lives in the area can have a say in its future.
We have been plenty of times as a family with kids, as a couple or just a group of friends.

We went to see out first 3D film there and had a great time with friendly helpful volunteers. Comfy seats made it so good to relax and watch the film. We will recommend this to our friends.

They don't have a lot of different films, but it's a very cosy cinema.
The staff was very nice and helpful.

One of my favourite cinemas. A visit to Oban is never complete without coming here. The films are pretty up-to-date so don't understand that criticism. We have watched live events (Miss Saigon), chamber pieces (The Death of Stalin with one other person in the small cinema), and stunning vent cinema like Arrival. It's fairly cheap - the GFT springs to mind as a comparable venue and it's a lot pricier - and although the seats don't recline, it's comfortable enough. A good place to wait out the occasional autumnal rain. Highly recommended.
