This was an interactive, interesting and well presented experience. Book online to save some money. We made a small error and ordred 2 guide books when we only wanted one. A quick email and they responded quickly and refunded without question. Theres some parking outside the jail, or in nearby car parks. The car parks are free until April. Dogs... More

If you have never been to a jail before you will find this very interesting. The guides are all very helpful and the court room intriguing. A great way to learn about our social history. The guides were very knowledgeable and everyone was very friendly. Opportunity to have a penny token franked with jail insignia for £1 and a courtroom... More

Staff were really nice with an informative audio player to walk round with. Interesting to hear about what it was like in the past but an experience that will be one you talk about much after.

On the plus side the information given is interesting, however the whole place needs updated. We took visitors from abroad for a day out to Inverary and based on the website, thought a visit to the jail would be a fun day out- informative with interaction from the actors to bring the place to life.We were frankly embarrassed. The website mentions... More

There's not a lot to do in Inveraray, but at least a visit to the old jail is a bit different - especially when it's raining. You can see the old prison cells and the terrible lot people suffered in the old days, along with historical notes. There's even a courtroom set up to demonstrate the unfairness of the hearings.... I should have known before I bought the ticket - history is not really my thing. If it's yours then this might be enjoyable but for me looking at a series of almost empty rooms (cells) some with dummy people in them is just plain boring. Sorry. The live actors mentioned on the website didn't appear either. Sometimes a bit... More

The jail is one of the few things to do in Inveraray. The tour is full of exhibits and information on the history of the jail. It takes about an hour to go round the exhibits. Good place to visit on a wet Scottish day.
