This ancient ruined church has been around since the 6th century during the times of the Picts. The church must've been modified later as it has a bird cage belfry from a much later period. The ruin looks amazing standing as it does in the Scottish countryside, but the most important artefact of the church is the Pictish slab depicting s Celtic cross and agrarian scenes. The scene depicted on the slab is enigmatic, almost Mesopotamian in its style. Which just makes it more enjoyable. The slab itself is within the grounds of the ruin, behind a glass display.

Tucked away in a ruined church is this ancient stone.
It's free to see and only takes a few minutes but worth a quick visit to see something as old as it is.

It's tucked away in the corner of a ruined church. It's amazing to see something that's around 1300 years so well preserved. It's free to go in and view it. We wandered around the graveyard and looked at the tombstones. It was amazing to see how many people died so young in the 18th and 19th centuries. It makes you realise how lucky people are these days with modern medicine and the NHS.

The stone is inside a derelict Church in a sleepy, almost deserted, place. The stone is impressive, as are some of the grave stones in the graveyard you have to get through to reach it

The pictish stone in situated inside the old church, protected from the elements by a glass case. There's an information board on the wall.
There are a few interesting gravestones if you're a Taphophile like myself.

An absolute gem! Little known, often passed-which gives one a sense of privelege, l have viewed this stone several times & more times than not, been the sole person on site. The Pictish Stones in Angus/Perthshire are situated in scattered rural, sparsely populated sites & this is definitely one of the best.

My wife and I visited the Eassie Sculptured Stone on Sunday, (16th April) after paying a visit to the nearby Meigle Sculptured Stones Museum.
This 'cross-slab', which was carved about 1,300 years ago, is located in the corner of a ruined church, and is protected from the elements by a purpose built shelter.
Very interesting to see, and definitely made all the more enjoyable because of it's setting and surroundings.

Another idyllic setting for a Pictish stone - protected by transparent casing in the ruined old church in the hamlet of Eassie. The stone has some very nice details - a four-winged angel and a very fine stag stick in the memory. The surrounding churchyard has a few interesting gravestones - we particularly liked one to a tailor which showed his scissors and flatiron. A very enjoyable diversion for anyone going to Forfar or Meigle.
