This huge ( 400 ft long by 80ft high) , dazzling granite structure should be on every visitor’s travel itinerary to the city. It’s the 2nd largest granite building in the world, and was built in 2 stages. Work began on its construction in the 1830s , and the 2nd phase was completed in 1906. It also successfully melds 2 types of architecture ; the classical lines of celebrated Aberdeen architect Archibald Simpson , and the Neo-Gothic revival style of A. Marshall MacKenzie. The older parts are built from Rubislaw Quarry granite, and the later additions from Kemnay granite. It’s been fastidiously renovated to its former glory, and is now Aberdeen City Council Headquarters - and also houses a museum of artefacts.

This building is very impressive, the pictures don't do it justice.
We visited for the Xmas markets, which were held inside and outside of this building. It was lovely to see it all decorated but the market itself wasn't great.
Definitely worth checking this place out if you like architecture.

A monumental building now used by Aberdeen City Council as its headquarters, while parts of the buildings are still used for by the University of Aberdeen. An 19th century example of Neo-Gothic similar to the excessively straight facade of Perpendicular and Italian Gothic. There’s a distinct lack of embellishment on the facade except for the finials and crockets. The monumental scale of the building is reflected in the gloriously long straight line that seems to reach up to the skies..

As this is a civic building, the staff let me into the courtyard, although an appointment is required to enter the official council area.

For a collage this is amazing. The architect is absolutely fantastic and the building in general is out of this world. One of my favourite buildings in Aberdeen.

The 2nd largest granite building in Europe after Spain's Escorial Palace according to my guide book. Most impressive ,especially in sunshine. Its a shame it is now a council office combined with a police station,as the interior would be worth a look.

The Marischal College was a stunning venue but the registrar (Marion Philip) was rude, abrupt and barked orders in a most offputting and inappropriate manner, which in my opinion, detracted from the special day. I felt she could have checked the correct pronunciation of the bride and groom's names in advance rather than just giving it her best guess on the day. A bit of patience, common courtesy and the word ‘please’ wouldn’t go amiss when officiating at someone's special day.

Marischal College is now the headquarters of Aberdeen City Council and is the second largest granite building in the world.
In a beautiful setting on Broad St the building has been cleaned and the granite sparkles.
You can enter and see the courtyard through the glass and this was when graduations took place as the University was here before.
Fantastic huge stained glass windows at the rear which can be seen.
Robert the Bruce statue on a horse is nearby and also worth a visit.
Well worth a visit in Aberdeen.
The area is pedestrianised but buses still use it.

One of the cooler old buildings around town. In the right lighting would be nice spot for some pictures. It’s worth passing by for a quick visit.
