Easily found on Union Street in Aberdeen, the postcode is AB10 1JZ. This is known as the Mither Kirk and is fabulous both outside and inside. I attended a service in December and the heating was under repair, very cold but it was still a nice visit. The brass band playing was really nice to bring out the accoustics of... More

I love exploring old kirkyards and cemeteries and it is always amazing how, in the middle of a buzzing city, one can find those places that set you back in time instantly and also have that calm and peaceful feel about them.

Tranquil and calm in the middle of the busy city. Lots of history in a small square. Couldn't believe I was right next to the main town. The stone entrance was magnificent!! Just watch your step

St Nicholas west kirk gives a real ..and now almost unique ... feeling of a great Scottish church in the 18th century. Could be in a Dutch old master painting with the galleries, the polished dark wood etc. Friendly welcome from the volunteers on duty.

What a gem! A really interesting upper storey never found in English churches. Downstairs lots of history of The Mither Kirk and fantastic modern sculptures and bespoke furniture by Tim Stead. Wonderful stained glass window by Shona Mcinnes. Lovely lady guided us then told us about the amazing installation at Migvie old Kirk....which is another story. You do not need... More

This is an historic old building. The churchyard alone is a fascinating place with countless old grave stones and markers going back hundreds of years. It is a landmark to guide walks around the city.

There is a lot of information to be gained from the head stones. it is a lovely quiet place to sit and eat your sandwiches. There are benches laid out for you to have a seat on.

The cemetery is a font of knowledge for people tracing their family history. It is also a peaceful place to walk through. There are benches so you can sit and eat your packed lunch.

It's true that this CAN be a peaceful escape from the hustle & bustle of Union St but I'd advise you to check it out before stepping in. I went into explore one sunny afternoon on my own but discovered a couple of 'visitors' worse for wear who were beginning to get a bit verbally shirty with each other. I... More
