What an awesome, lovely quaint Anglican church! The site of the St Colmcille Abbey, approx. 546AD (Colmcille became Columba). It is an understated warm welcoming church. This belies the truly troubled past it has endured.

Undergoing restoration/restoration this time so we cannot get in. From the outside it’s a beautiful church and the grounds around the are well kept.

Beautiful little church right on the walls. Unfortunately it was closed on our visit , but it did have an interactive map on display outside which was great.

Unfortunately, it was not open (not sure if due to Covid-19). I could have a good glimpse from the outside, and it has a lovely graveyard.

Built on the site of the 546 AD monastery of St Columbas, the church is significant in the history of the area. There are many famous graves in the grounds. We didn't get inside to view the lovely stained glass windows..

This is the site of the original Benedictines Abbey established by Augustine before he went to Scotland and established Iona.
Beautiful building a few hundred years old and while still having Su day services struggles with a small congregation.

The church and grounds are lovely. Wonderful place to take a few minutes to stop and reflect. The stained glass windows and mosaic on the walk are worth the stop.

Stopped in for a few minutes to the visit the church and catch a glimpse of the past. It even smelled really old....

Just outside is an old cemetery if you are hoping to discover a few deceased relatives. There is a sign that has all the occupants listed so no need to wander in the actual cemetery.

There are some volunteers ready to answer questions or offer assistance.

Great stop along the wall stroll.

This beautiful small church on Derry's Walls is a gem to come upon as you make your way along the City Walls and can step inside the lovely gateway into the cemetery and beautifully kept gardens - the colourful shrubs and flowers lead you into the small church. Lovely stain glass windows with memorials line the walls. At the altar area at the front of the church there is a beautiful tapestry which was done as as part of "The Big Weave" for the City of Culture Year 2013. People from all over got to be part of the tapestries done at the time led by the now Anglican Bishop of Meath & Kildare Pat Storey- locals and visitors from all round the world got to put a couple of stitches in place - it was great to be part of. The church also hosts concerts and other performances - over July August on Tuesdays lunchtime music from 1-2pm.
