Having ancestors who survived the seige of Londonderry in the 1600s, this brought family and Irish history alive for this descendant! We had a lunch stop in Londonderry during our Cosmos Irish Explorer tour in 2017. Great views of the city from atop the wall....More

We explored this gate as part of our tour of the city walls. This gate does not have separate pedestrian archways like some of the other gates, so you have to be mindful when crossing under this gate. There are also stairs off to the...More

When in the City don't just tour along the top of the walls as there are many varied and interesting gates along the route. This gate sits behind the Guild hall and has (as they all do) a notice board giving details about the individual...More

You need to see this as part of the guided tour of the walls. It is so much better when an experienced person gives you the history.

Centuries ago this had battlements and a portcullis. Today those fun features are long gone: it is an arch over a road. Yes, those red-bordered white triangular road warning signs are bolted to it, telling the traffic the maximum height for vehicles to pass below....More

This is part of the walled city and steeped in history with plenty of background to read and learn about See it as part of the walled city and walking round the wall

Today's City has evolved many times and the gate at shipquay street is a fine example of engendered stone well over300 years old and still stands

This is worth a photo op when in town. One of many gates that remain in town. Another piece of history that should be looked at.
