First Derry Presbyterian Church was closed for worship for many years and it re-opened in May 2010 when it was restored to it's former glory. At the opening service it was attended by the two communities and several dignitaries including Deputy First Minister. This Church has one of the best choirs with both Mr William Loughlin and Mr Donald Hill... More

Although not one of the most important things we wanted to see in Derry/Londonderry we popped in to visit and it was well worth it. As we came in through the door the host said, 'Sit down and you'll have a treat'. The treat was that one of the churches choristers, in his 80s (I think) was singing for a... More

There are no signs of damage done to this church during The Troubles. Contributions from many sources, including Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, were utilized in a careful, faithful manner. We were serenaded by an elderly church member who sang several hymns , taking advantage of the lovely acoustics. On a previous visit, I was privileged to meet Rev. Latimer... More

Located right next to the walls around Derry, the First Presbyterian Church is a great place to visit IF you have the same guide we did. We also had a moving talk by the minister, Rev. Latimer, but this was because we were part of a genealogy conference run by the Ulster Historical Foundation.

The history we were brought up with said it was the Catholics at war with the Protestants. But whilst doing historic sight seeing in Derry we were assured that it was the fault of the Presbyterians from Scotland . Marvelous "spin" but dont you just love it , all makes sense now . Great fun .

We visited whilst on a walking tour, the custodian that was at the church was so enthusiastic and positive in his message of how the church got its donation and funding. A great story of how to overcome and look to the future. Interesting benches especially the little points like the top hat racks and tray for catching the drips... More

very informative and engaging gentleman who explained some of the history of the building; which was interesting as it was quite different from any other the churches i ahve visited in the UK mainland. Particularly like the western red cedar ceiling.
