The whole of the Bogside seems like a memorial to the "Troubles".I found it a little difficult to visualise the events as the whole area has been redeveloped but to stand on the spot where the British army shot and killed British citizens in Britain was both very harrowing and deeply sad!I felt Derry isn't quite united yet (as opposed... A shameful history but not hidden in the City of Derry. If your understanding, or more likely lack of it, has been gleaned from government/activist/paramilitary/media statements and coverage, and you have an interest in the troubles and how its affected the lives of ordinary people on all sides, there are plenty of opportunities in Derry...such as memorials and artwork, etc..

I found it a terrible loss of innocent lives. I felt this was an unprovoked show of power & a totally unnecessary attack on peaceful protesters. Made me feel angry & sad at the same time.

Our tour guide climbed aboard to take us to different sites in Derry, and tell us the history of this place. This memorial may seem plain and unimpressive, but the history behind it brings a lot of emotion to the surface. Like another reviewer, the U2 song was running through my head the whole time I was here.

We had a very detailed taxi tour which gave a great insight. Our driver knew the city inside out so it was wonderful to see all the places which meant so much to him. It was sad to see places which were part of the 30 years of the 'troubles '. Derry seems to be such a quiet and friendly city... More

The memorial itself is quite small, but depicts the feeling of the area well. Go and read the inscriptions as part of your walk around Free Derry Corner and don't miss the Free Derry museum illustrating the more personal side of the 'Troubles'. Easy walk from the city centre.

The memorial itself is small in stature, but the emotions that go along with it are large. Couldn't help but put the U2 song through my thoughts while there.

Truthful, sad, museum depicting the day 18 young people were innocently killed during a peaceful protest. It took 30 some odd years for the truth to finally come out and the Brits admitted fault, and apologies.
