Early Christian stone ring fort with a beautiful vista and a souterrain to explore. To think that the site was almost lost to history when a road contractor wanted to destroy it doesn't bare thinking about.

Located in a somewhat out of the way location the site is well worth a visit. Surrounded by a quite imposing ring wall the site features some earth works and a set of tunnels inside the enclosure. The tunnels themselves are worth venturing into to truly capture the atmosphere of the site.

At least it was in my childhood when I ventured into the souterrain! Can be done on a day out with Legananny Dolmen. It was amazing that they could build something like this way back then.

If you think this is just another ring fort because you have seen six ones previous, and is one is smaller...then you would be missing the coolest fort in Ireland. This one has underground tunnels, called souterrains, where the inhabitants hid in times of trouble! They are deep and go from one end to the other...very Indiana Jones! Here are... More
