Description:

Magnificent St Anne's Cathedral at the heart of Belfast's Cathedral Quarter...

Magnificent St Anne's Cathedral at the heart of Belfast's Cathedral Quarter is a treasure trove of art, culture and music.

Services take place four times daily, with a sung service most days. The Cathedral has a range of choirs, including a new Boys' Choir, with many members recruited from St Anne's innovative cross-community Choir School project.

The Cathedral was consecrated in 1904 and extended over the years, with the eye-catching Spire of Hope added in 2006. Today, as well as being a sacred space and place of worship, St Anne's also provides a stunning backdrop for concerts, recitals and carol services.

Inside its lofty interior are mosaics by Sir Charles Nicholson, and sculptures by Rosamund Praegar and Maurice Harding. The mosaics of Italian glass are by sisters Gertrude and Margaret Martin - the mosaic over the font is said to hold more than 150,000 pieces!

St Anne's has spectacular stained glass windows and some very fine needlework, including the poignant Titanic Pall.

Visitors can avail of a guide booklet and optional audio tour. There is a shop stocking original gifts.

As St Anne's is the Cathedral for the City of Belfast, the Chapel of the Holy Spirit is free to visitors for quiet prayer at any time.

This structure anchors the neighborhood. Wonderful building and you can walk around the outside for a long time. But when you go inside, you may be disappointed that there is not a lot to see. It is possible that this is predominantly a religious building and they don't give a lot of thought to tourists. In any case, you can... More

We visited this week, on a lovely day, bright sunshine should have enhanced the stained glass windows however i found this cathedral rather souls, we were unable to visit the crypt and the guide on duty told us he had never been in the crypt. I find it a shame that churches charge to enter here when access to notre... More

Decided to visit this whilst on the Hop on Hop off Bus tour. Its easy to find from the drop off point and is a short walk back to the tour starting point. The cathedral charges circa £5 to get in, which some may think is steep, however St Paul's in London charge £18 so I don't think its that... More

There is hardly anything worth seeing in this cathedral. It is a grey building and they force you to buy a booklet for all four members of one family at the price op 2 pound per person. Don't go, you will feel ripped of.

Saturday 29th April and we were out and about in Belfast, sightseeing, and this cathedral is a top attraction in the city. Saint Anne's Cathedral is also know as Belfast Cathedral is situated in Donegal Street in the centre of the city in Cathedral Quarter. One of the most obvious aspects of the Cathedral is the 40 metre spire, the... More

Really wanted to see this lovely cathedral in all it's glory. There was nothing outside to say anyone had to pay to visit. I am aware that these old buildings need to raise money for upkeep but i feel there should be some transparency in advance. The welcome was cold and unfeeling.

We only had a few hours in Belfast but were glad that this was one of the places that we visited. Beautiful stained glass windows and unusually light and open. A very good written guide came with the modest entrance fee (I think it was £4) and staff who were both knowledgeable and friendly. Do not miss the windows of... More

A great place to see lots of memorabilia . Flowers were a delight. Loos also were a good surprise. The Quiet chapel for reflection a little spoiled by the activity of putting up staging for a concert, people banging about and noise in general. Seniors £4.00 to enter

A really beautiful cathedral; stunning spire and some wonderful stained glass. The entrance fee includes an interesting guide, but is still perhaps a bit steep and could be voluntary. Staff were really nice and even gave my young son a free bag of chocoltaes from the shop.
