Great surprise

We went to see a castle and discovered some amazing sand dunes. It was great to climb the Big Dipper.

Set between beautiful countryside & Village houses and the sea. Great dunes to climb, roll about, slide down. Interesting Candleston Castle ruins.

I love the sand dunes, have been many times, either walking dogs with my partner or trekking with my nieces and their ponies. My favourite is to walk along the river bank to the beach then walk back across the dunes. Decent size car park with relatively cheap parking.

Our dog had an absolute ball. It was a really fun walk with spectacular views. We would definitely recommend it if you have a dog or children! We even saw some children sledging down the dunes. We will be returning.

Being a local I really just drive past, but, a friend said to me one day," Gwynne if we were visitor here our camera would not stop clicking, but we ignore,"how sad. It's beautiful.

The dunes are a nice place to go for a walk/hike.You can park in the car park by the ruins of Merthyr Mawr Castle(charged) and then choose which way you wish to,depending on your fitness levels. For a relatively easy walk to the beach, walk straight ahead,if you want a bit more of a challenge, walk to the right where you will find... The sandunes are wonderful for walking and I remember playing there loads as a child! If you have a dog they will love going down there! You can walk as far as you want down to the beach, over to the river or just remain in the dunes. Lovely scenery and peace and quiet! I live locally so it's a... More
