A surprising gem! We had a wonderful welcome from the two volunteers outside who let us know the times of the next introductory video and slate splitting demo so we didn't miss them by looking around outside first. One chap (who used to work at this site) also pointed out the slate quarry across the car park that is now... More

We went over Christmas break, weather wasn't brilliant, we took lots of photographs, and thoroughly enjoyed our walk around the Quarry & Museum. Full of history and the staff are very helpful & friendly, loved the quarrymans cottages, & to see them how they would of looked back in the day.

We did have a little gander around the museum and learnt some things about slate but the real action is going through the woods, getting to the top and seeing the view (and maybe smashing a few bits of slate)

Make no mistake - slate would not have been my first choice visit in a list of National Museums - but this amazing place is full of history and memories, has masses of interesting exhibits - and is dog friendly. Well-behaved dogs (on short leads) are allowed into every area, except the cafe (there are undercover areas for dogs and... More

We took our six year old and one year old boys to the slate museum during October half term. I had last been there as a child, probably around 20 years ago and before our return I couldn't understand why it had stuck with me. We all loved it! The industrial history was fascinating, our usually taciturn eldest boy was... More

My first visit to this excellent, and free attraction, parking is charged for, and although late in the season the museum was still open. A very informative site with plenty to see, lovely walks around the Padarn Country Park. Will certainly visit again, and explore further.
