Brilliant local history

The history of Conwy is laid out here. The centre of Edward I's ring of castles, Conwy has played an important role in the development of North Wales, and it can be learnt here.

Visited on a warm day, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were with friends for a weekend break and found the house to be brilliantly well-preserved. It was great to see the effort that had been made to provide a "genuine" experience - right down to the carrots in the kitchen! Loved it.

Really enjoyed visiting this Elizabethan town house . It was very informative using the audio guide and stewards in the rooms . It really helped to bring the staff and family life alive . It was very well maintained and restored . I would definitely recommend a visit .

Plas Mawr must surely be, after the castle, the prime historic attraction in Conwy. Built by a well-to-do and well-travelled Elizabethan merchant, it is described as a house, and yet in its size and scale might be called a palazzo or even small palace somewhere else. It has three floors and occupies even today virtually the whole length of a... More

Nicely done: an interest in audio tour and rooms decked out as they would have been when the house was built which helped to bring it all alive.

Great tour of this well restored grand house of Conway. The audio machines allow one to hear the details of the various areas of the house from the maids perspective, the owners perspective or his wife! It holds ones attention in this very fun manner!

This house is so interesting. You are given audio guides and the place is fascinating. The guide lady was excellent, full of facts and happy to answer endless questions.

This is simply a beautiful place to visit. The entrance fee for my wife and I was £6 each and it was worth every penny. We were there about 3 hours slowly walking every room and taking in all the history listening to the audio tour (recommended!) It is a real hands on building with plenty of areas to touch... More

If you are interested in how people lived in the 15th C (I think that's right) - this is the place to go: every room holds some fascination. I particularly like the availability of the audio tour (the NT could benefit greatly from audio); even my husband, who was a bit housed and castled out by that time, listened to... More
