The Black Chasm

Orcs, Goblins, Wraiths & other Myths. Wales' scariest underground adventure. This experience is not for the faint hearted! Not recommended for under 10's.

A Dragon's Tale

Why risk the nightmare of Black Chasm when you can join the search for Grotty, Silver Mountain's mystical, secretive and shy dragon. Our new for 2014 actor-led adventure for families. Suitable for children from the age of 4yrs.

A Miner's Life

This guided tour immerses you in the original and rare setting of the mine, both above and below ground and helps you to discover the fascinating facts of mining life in by-gone times as it would have been seen through the eyes of a miner.

Family-active

4 new hands-on features including Shroomy Challenge, Shroomy Circle, Giant's Button Puzzle, Giant's Pan Pipes.

Woo Hoo Wood

Younger members of the family will delight in the magic of Woo Hoo Wood where they can find their way through the Tangle-Foot Maze, search for the answers to the Woo Hoo Quest, glimpse the Kindlings' Tree Village or try a spot of Den-building - with some help from the grown-ups too!

Gem / Gold Panning*

Next to the Silver River Water Play area you can try your hand at panning for gems or for 'gold'. One of our most popular activities this is totally absorbing for young and old! * Modest charges apply

Silver River Play Area

Even more for the kids and the young at heart to enjoy with the chance to safely dam and divert the water in the wooden channels or paddle in the stream and carry on with the dam-building theme!

(Crocs/footwear advised for paddling).

Mining Exhibition

This indoor museum holds one of the finest collections of hard rock mining machinery, tools and ephemera in Wales, reflecting the story of silver-lead ore extraction in the Cambrian Mountains over many centuries.

Coffee Shop

Our cosy coffee shop offers fresh from-the-bean coffees, teas, delicious hot chocolate, cold drinks and ices, hot soup, paninis, toasties, sandwiches, cold snacks and tempting cakes & muffins.

On the way home from Aberystwyth for the weekend when we seen this on the way, we decided to pop in because it had a cool name and why not! We arrived at a car park where we were the only car and 2 other staff members, we decided to do the horror maze, it was both terrifying and effective,... More

We called into the Silver Mountain experience after we passed it by chance. What a great place to visit really interesting and you actually get to go down a mine !! Most of all the staff are absolutely brilliant, really passionate about their work and are trying their best to make this place a success. I am not sure who... More

My son had his tenth birthday part at the Silver Mountain Experience and they all had a brilliant time. The enjoyed the Black Chasm, though beware it was properly scary. The tour through the mine is good and also very interesting for adults. The Time Lab was fun and well executed. The children did panning for gems and gold and... More

We visited with 3 kids under 6, they loved the tour and still are taking about it. They also loved the woods area, and the myths and stories they were told. Staff were great and kept in character. Lots for children to do and us adults enjoyed it too. Nice cafe with reasonable prices.

Didn't quite know what to expect. Whole family pleasantly surprised . Loved the quest quiz and egg hunt, kept the family entertained and eager to explore the woods. The miners life tour was awesome, educational and made fun by our guide. Would recommend!

What could be an interesting and informative but possibly dry and adult driven museum of a mine has been made into a family fun attraction with loads to do for kids of all ages to keep them amused and interested. Cleverly done so that parents can learn about the mine's history too. Tours are interesting, educational but entertaining. Lots of... More

We turned up five minutes late and the mine had just closed, but the shop and cafe were open. We were greeted by two people, one dressed ( I think) as a dearf... The whole experience of just being in the shop was toally cringeworthy, and my 10 year old was highly embarrassed by the sillyness of this person who... More

I'm sorry if you arrived late, but our opening times are clearly indicated on our website and brochure, which I suspect is the real reason for the less than favorable review. We welcome feedback from all of our guests to help improve our business. However, in this instance we have requested that TA remove this 'review' as it is both... More

We'd visited the gold mine at Dolaucothi & had a really good time so thought we'd give The Silver Mountain Experience a try. Also, my 9 year old daughter thought the tourist leaflet looked really exciting. After handing over a fairly whopping £35 for two adults & a child we chose the Halloween themed 'Black Chasm' tour. The young lady... More

Stopped off here with my wife on the way back to Cardiff from Aberystwyth. The staff were really friendly and clearly passionate about their business. On this occassion we only made use of the cafe for a light lunch. We both had soup with a toasted ciabatta plus a tea and juice. The food was tasty and good value for... More
