After a walk up a big hill you finally get to it! Great views from the hill and great rhat you can actually go inside the chamber. Not much to see or much information available but still a nice place to visit. We have also been up there at night with torches and our teenage sons...quite a different feeling about... More

As you pull over to park on the A4, Silbury Hill commands the view, but on the south side of the road a short walk along a the path skirting the fields... and you arrive at East Kennett Long Barrow. 5,000 years old and mostly unheard of today as it shares this area of the country with more famous neighbours.... Visited Summer 2015. Not much parking on side of road and there was broken glass in layby. ( break ins while visiting monument ? ) Barrow was something I had always wanted to visit but I think a bit too hyped. I love this stuff normally but a long mound with rocks at one end. I thought the inside would... More

I'm sure my suggestion in the title might be considered odd by some but when you step out of the brightness of the day you can't really appreciate the burial chambers properly. Much of the Barrow is "undiscovered" which adds to the mystique of the visit. Parking is in a layby on the main road (A4) so you may not... More

There is a short walk across 2 fields from a lay-by on the A4 (well-signposted but look out for Silbury Hill on the opposite (right-hand) side of the road) and I would recommend decent footwear in wet weather. The burial chamber is 5,000 years old and is fully intact. It's not huge but you can access the interior which is... More

You could quite easily drive past this place as it is not really visible from the main road. If you go past Silbury hill on your left you are nearly there. If you go past it on your right you have gone too far. There is parking on the road and a nearby car park at Silbury Hill. There is... More

Took the kids here after the stones at Avebury. Took a little while to find (Google took me the wrong way) but well worth the visit. Took 15 minutes to walk up the hill from the roadside carpark and the views were fantastic.

If you love history or anthropology make the trip to this site. There's an awe to walking up the hill and coming across this beautiful little mound. Then walking inside and feeling like you're part of the story of mankind. Just a truly enthralling experience.

There's an eerie air at the West Kennet Long Barrow where you can literally step inside a historic site. Very close to the Avebury Stone Circle, Silbury Hill and West Kennet Spring (where fairies are reported to hang out).

This was my second visit to the West Kennet Long Barrow, the first time being before I walked the Ridgeway over the summer. It's just a short walk from Avebury, or an even shorter drive. There is parking right alongside the road. This site has a magical feel to it, as one other reviewer has noted. If you go in... More
