Step back in time and wander through the enchanting streets, shops and houses and experience life as a Victorian. As a fun, family-friendly and interactive museum, Abbey House Museum is a great day out for all the family. Come to one of our many family sessions as advertised on our website or pop in with friends for a trip down memory lane.On the ground floor visit Stephen Harding Gate, the 19th century equivalent of a modern high street, for some old fashioned retail therapy. In the back streets, see the home of the window washer woman or pop into the Sunday-School. On the first floor, see our Childhood and Community Galleries along with the changing programme of exhibitions. Abbey House Museum is situated directly across the road from the historical site of Kirkstall Abbey, set in wonderful parkland along the banks of the River Aire.

I love visiting this museum and my children love it too. It's interesting for all ages and the staff are friendly, enthusiastic and full of knowledge. They are always happy to talk to you to answer any questions. I could spend all day just wandering around that Victorian street! It's not expensive either, very good value for money and a... More

We have been going here for years, and the museum has been improved as time goes on. We love the cobbled street with all the Victorian shops as if people were still shopping there, and the accompanying living quarters. Also the toys from those times are intriguing. Well worth a visit for children or adults. Prices are very reasonable, and... More

A few miles west of Leeds centre on the A65 and close to Headingley is the council owned museum opposite Kirkstall Abbey. Children will particularly enjoy the old streets and shops to look around and the old penny machines. There is a nice tearoom too.

This is a must visit place for anyone interested in the history of Leeds and the Abbey. Take your time going round the museum and then treat yourself to some excellent food at the cafe

Haven't been since I was a child, now 44 with 2 of my own children and was hoping to relive a few memories- couldn't have been more happier. The 'Old Street ' museum is a delight to young and old and the staff are so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The cafe is reasonably priced and the gift shop has something for... More

This was a trip back in time. The museum is a revelation of times past and an equal to any thing that I have seen with similar presentations across all parts of England. This is a must visit when in Leeds. An amazing in site into times past and a visit to spend a reasonable amount of time to absorb... More

We visited in June this year and found the free car park and easy walk to the attraction very satisfying. The museum offers discounts fro Leeds card holders and we found the old streets within the building like an aladdins cave of nostalgia. Old chemist shops and pubs and undertakers etc. take you back to times long forgotten. Children also... More

The museum is free entry if you are disabled and is located across the road from the abbey. Its well worth seeing about the house and the history of the abbey.
