Welcome to the Leeds Minster - a place of worship and service for the fast-moving modern city of Leeds.

Leeds Minster is one of England's best-loved Parish Churches and at our heart is a sacred choral tradition.

Our origins date back to the greatest of the Victorian Vicars of Leeds, Dr Hook. It was during his 22-year incumbency that today's Minster Church of St Peter at Leeds was built - an astonishing building consecrated with great ceremony on 2 September 1841 in the presence of a vast congregation including the celebrated Florence Nightingale. In 2012 we were granted Minster status.

Today you can visit the Minster for worship - whether for a few minutes of calm contemplation at a mid-week Choral Evensong or for the richness of a Sunday Choral Eucharist.

We invite all to walk around and soak up the atmosphere of a building rich in history and heritage, light a votive candle, listen to the famous organ and round it all off with an enjoyable light lunch in our Refectory.

If you do have not the time for an extended personal visit, but happen to pass the Minster on foot, by train, by bus, or in your car, do listen out for the Bells and do pray for us as we pray for you.

Golden Oldie!

Lovely building! Rich in history- especially with all the add on collected from other churches. Beautiful nativity scene.

The only thing that I liked in this church was the modern glass screen in the entrance porch. I wouldn't call it a Minster.

This doesn't rank for me amongst must see churches being a 19th century layout. However some interesting early monuments from previous versions, a friendly welcome & some free music offered at lunchtimes. Visiting it will also take you into parts of Leeds you might easily miss. Note the memorial to Police Sergeant John Speed on the opposite side of the... More

We joined the congregation to sing carols and help Radio Leeds in their recording which was aired on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Lovely building, well loved and cared for inside and out.

Came to the Minster for a Carol Concert by G4 and was amazed at how beautiful the interior was. The Christmas tree and nativity scene were lovely and the outside of the building is beautiful.

Its a shame that there are only short opening hours and no services during the weeks but the minster is a liberating building that stands out.

Wow this church is amazing and looks huge a fantastic building just across a road from Leeds pedestrianised city centre I can only comment on the beautiful architecture of the exterior of this parish church now a Minster. I was only in Leeds a short while and it was too late to go inside but when I am next in... More

I visited primarily for the Friday organ recital. On entering, I was immediately taken with the layout - a gallery all round, quite unusual I would have thought in churches of this type. I received a very warm welcome and was asked to sit anywhere, although a certain area was recommended as being best to hear the organ to advantage.... More

Beautiful building and a hidden gem in the bustling streets of Leeds. A lady came immediately to tell us the story of the Minster. She was very nice and we were absorbed for ages. Definitely worth a visit.

Only a few minutes walk away from the centre and the first thing you notice is the gorgeous stain glass windows. Lots of flags linking with local regiments and a nice atmosphere.
