lots of trains to see but looks like a scrap yard, lots of better fully working trains to go and see else where, but interesting to look at

Visited on a rare Open Day in January, so not all exhibits were open. However, had a good selection of carriages and engines, some of which are quite rare (so I'm told by my husband)! Staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate. Would need to be a train enthusiast to make this worthwhile. Kids loved 'driving' the engines - unusual... More

I visited in October 2016for the last open day of the year. I wasn't expecting great things as I'd been told it was little more than a collection of rotting coaches in a field, but having visited, it's much more than that. The site has been cleaned up and tidied considerably over the last few years, the staff are friendly... More

Not everyone's cup of tea and from afar you could be fooled into thinking its just a retirement village for old electric trains. More for the enthusiast but if you are visiting the Air museum next door, it is only a 15 second drive to see the trains. Check the website for opening times as they are very limited. Plus... More

Being in right from the first section of the Victoria Line opened, I just had to see how the now preserved old Diagram and control desk had been re built. I was quite amazed and to see a test simulation on part of the diagram that it is hoped will be full operational in 2017. This Museum is the only... More

Visited on one of few days open. Note free entry. As a none railway "nerd" it was interesting but not worth having travelled from Manchester for me. Even so as patchwork and quilt show on so my wife took a lot longer going round this exhibition and bought loads and l rescued day by going to Midland plane museum next... More

I seem to have spent my whole life commuting on or travelling on the southern electric trains so it seems somewhat strange to find a museum dedicated to the 'flash boxes' in the middle of the country. This is very much an enthusiast's attraction and compare say with the National Railway Museum in York, or some of the heritage steam... More

Preserving electric engines was always going to be a challenge - and now that some are coming to the end of their working lives there are odd examples to be restored and saved - some are in the National Collection and others are here. As a museum today it's pretty poor - we visited on an open day but could... More

We unexpectedly found this open on a visit to the next door Air Museum, it took us around 20 minutes to get around but there isn't a great deal of interest to a non-enthusiast apart from the signal box, which the kids enjoyed

Free entry and wonderfully welcoming volunteers, who are knowledgeable about the exhibits. For those interested in railways it has a large collection of electric trains and locomotives, most all the last of their kinds. Some items are restored and others in the process of being restored, many can be viewed inside and out. Plenty of interest for families and trains... More
