Leaving the barge lock and walking out alongside the river (opposite RSC), there is plenty of wildlife and flora to see. Buildings are left behind and woodland, fields and open spaces soon come into view. Be aware that there are two sets of wooden steps to navigate. Then join the disused railway track and make your way back into Stratford,... More

While there is plenty to do in Stratford on Avon, you really should make time for this walk. It is not a strenuous trail and you can navigate the distance to suit all levels of fitness. The walk itself can take in nature at its best, the history of the area, great scenery and one or two nice pubs for... More

Loved teaching kids about locks, liked watching rowers and swans. Lovely countryside river stroll even in winter.

The River Avon, with its consistently attractive views and waterside gardens, theatre and church, is one of the strengths of Stratford, so take advantage of it and walk its banks.

We did this walk from the footbridge near the boatclub and followed the river as far as the old railway bridge near the racecourse where we crossed over and walked back. The first part of the walk is easy going along a wide path where the swans are in abundance and there are lots of people walking their dogs and... More

Took two evening walks along this river trail, and dreamed of taking a long trip by boat down this river one day.

This is a relatively easy walk along both sides of the avon from the town to the racecourse and back again. It can be muddy after the first footbridge by the main road and there is a steep climb up from the river further on. The views across the avon to the Theatre and along the banks of the Avon... More
