A great historic train station. I’ve always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. There is a first claw lounge available for those with first class tickets on LNER operated trains which is nice, it has comfortable seats with charging points as well as tea, coffee, water, crisps and biscuits available. There is also pleanty of seating throughout the station. There is several shops located whi thin the station including a Sainsbury’s, Marks and Spencer, WHSmiths, Burger King, Cafe Nero, Boots and several others. There are also two bars, The Centurion and Destination 1850. The train station is easy to navigate and the recognise the Sunflower Lanyard (Hidden Disability Lanyard). There is also access to ‘Central’ Metro station from within the train station.

They have squeezed 12 platforms into a relatively small footprint here, assisted by 8 one way platforms vs only 4 through lines. Easy to navigate with a minimum of stairs. It's a central hub for LNER and a starting station for some Trans Pennine Services.

This station is an excellent hub for exploring the north east of England by train. There are great facilities inside the station and the staff are always on hand to help you. Plenty of seating while you wait for your train. The shops are excellent from WH Smiths, Burger King, Boots, M&S and others.

Looks old fashioned and grand on the outside, but inside it is highly functional and busy. This is the city's main train station and where you will catch a train to another town. Some places for food and reading material inside.
