    Fabulous and interesting
What a great museum. Free with a suggested donation. Having visited vindolanda, the model of hadrians wall put it into context. So many interesting exhibits. Although busy, it didn't feel crowded. We wanted something for a rainy day and this didn't disappointed. Tbf, this was good for any weather day.

    Awesome place
What a find... A fantastic building with an extensive range of interesting and intriguing artefacts and exhibits with detailed, informative notes. Walk around at your leisure and peruse the wide and varied, fascinating items and learn about them as you go. Some interactive areas to get the grey matter working as well as educating the inquisitive mind. A real educational, informative and inspiring attraction that's free to enter but well worth a donation to appreciate the exhibits. An awesome place.

Good museum and well laid out
Great way to spend a few hours and interesting and well curated displays. Suggested £5 donation each which we were more than happy to do. Great to see a few groups of school kids enjoying it too. Fantastic set of stuffed animals which sounds very dull but more than I have ever seen before and very well done. Hadrian’s wall room also excellent.

    Enjoyable visit
Enjoyable visit to this museum. Definately worth it if you have a couple of hours spare. We didnt use the cafe having read some previous reviews but this didnt effect us as only there for 2 hours. We particularly enjoyed the local history aspect and of course the stuffed animals. Not sure if we would visit again but was glad we did it the once.

    Interesting Museum
This museum is free to enter. There is a very large and excellent exhibition about Hadrian‘s wall. They were plenty of other exhibitions, all of which were very good. We enjoyed the visit, but the only downside was a very large party of young school children who were not very well supervised.

    Fascinating, fun and free
First visit for many years - really loved it. Favourite was the Roman room with so much fascinating to see. Of course the natural history displays are good too. Definitely worth a visit if you have some interest in the local area. Added benefit: a lovely little cafe, with a deliciouls freshly made sandwich for lunch, happy noises from bunches of school childern, and it is FREE. (The suggested £5 donation is still great value.)

    Enjoyable 2 hours Kid friendly
Nice little museum that's free to get in and takes around 2 hours to get around. The building is in town and you can park at the Hancock, 5 min walk away for a max 2 hrs for around £3.60. Museum is on 2 floors and is general world history including Roman, Egypt, Space, Mineral, local wildlife and other general UK finds

I must confess; my interest was mainly in seeing the Roman remains as well as those of ancient Egypt, and I didn't explore the rest of the museum. That said, the Roman exhibits are very good indeed, and give a good insight into the lives and times of the Romans who lived on and around Hadrian's wall.

We had a lovely time at the museum and it’s free to enter too. There are lots of things to see. My children loved to look at the stuffed animals in particular. I liked to look at the tombs

Excellent FREE museum with plenty to see - but a trip absolutely ruined by some of the worst behaved kids and disinterested parents .

Wonderful exhibits of ancient history and natural history. Excellent display about Hadrian's wall. Something for all age groups and a nice café on the second floor. Free admission.
