Description:

West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village - one of the UK’s great archaeological sites...

West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village - one of the UK’s great archaeological sites - is a stunning recreation of the Anglo-Saxon settlement that occupied the site between 450-650 AD.

There is lots to see and do at West Stow throughout the year. Wander through the village and imagine what life would have been like for the Anglo-Saxons who lived here. Visit the Museum to see hundreds of fascinating finds excavated from beneath your feet. Dress up as an Anglo-Saxon, become an archaeologist in our Mini-Dig and don't forget to meet the pigs and chickens!

After visiting the Village, make sure you explore the historic landscape of our 125 acre Country Park. A large area of the park has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) as it is home to a variety of rare Breckland species.

We run lots of exciting events from battle re-enactments to bushcraft.

Having gone out of our way to get here, we were a bit disappointed that it was rather small. There wasn't much going on. The buildings were interesting but looked like a bit of an unfinished project. I couldn't believe that people who were producing complicated and delicate art works would be satisfied with such rudimentary accommodation. Surely they would... More

We began and ended our visit with time in the play-area, to our 8 year-old's delight. With a deep bed of sand throughout and several benches for onlookers, we were all happy to spend time here, feeling safe using the well-maintained equipment. The information centre was easily accessed and the staff were informed and welcoming. The shop is well-stocked with... More

A lot of effort has gone into making the village as accurate as possible. Great to bring kids to for a short visit, but can't sustain interest for a whole day. Good museum and café.

When we went to West Stow in August last year, there was a magnificent play area which had an awesome arrangement of equipment for your kids to play on, and we went on a walk beside the river, with lots of wildlife including some dragonflies and deer, and some brilliant forests for you to explore. Plus, the actual Anglo Saxon... More

The site has a great cafe selling a range of snacks and drinks. The professional coffee machine is a bonus for coffee lovers. The visitor centre is very good; very informative, and has some great displays of archeological finds. There's also a great video presentation too. There is a series of reconstructed Anglo Saxon buildings showing how life was lived... More

Very informative and lovely day out viewing the history of the first Anglo Saxon Village! Gorgeous walks around the country palk where you can view all the lovely birdlife and feed the ducks. Thoroughly enjoyed the walks and seeing how people lived in that era.

Really fab trip with a super Anglo Saxon village. The huts were great to look around and the museum was wonderful. My main disappointment was how dreadful the toilets were. Foul smelling and very unhygienic.
