Overview
More
Built in 1819, this Grade 1 listed playhouse is the only surviving example of a Regency theatre in the UK. It is the only theatre open to the public in the National Trust's portfolio of properties. Fully restored to it's Georgian splendour, the intimate auditorium and exquisite decorative scheme will provide visitors with an unforgettable and unique theatrical experience. The Theatre presents a vibrant, year-round programme of drama, music, dance and stand up comedy. We also offer regular tours of the building, contact our Box Office to book a space on one of our tours.

With this being a small local historic theatre it has lots of character. Great variety of shows throughout the year, with shows scheduled for all ages. The yearly pantomime is a fantastic end to the year, with booking being made a year in advance.

I love this place, ever since I was small and was taken here for the Christmas pantomimes the charm of this most elegant of theatres never diminishes. I recall happy memories of meeting Dame Hilda Bracket backstage, and Dr Evadne Hinge being grumpy. I also...More

Made in Dagenham Totally loveable show striking (if that’s not a pun) for women’s equality. The script was brilliant, the lyrics to the songs where great, the music was on the money and the cast where totally professional with a very likeable edge. The scenery...More

It is a small gem of a theatre which has been beautifully restored. I have even performed there mysef in my younger days. It has lovely intimate feel but the stage is large.

Theate Royal is a small intimate theatre where the actors could almost be in you front room. Lovely helpful staff and a great pleasure always to visit.

I'm not a regular theatre goer in honesty. Going to see the ballet is not usually on my agenda The theatre (the reason for this review) is a beauty. Lovely, historic building right beside the Greene King brewery. In fact, they own it as I...More

This was a special visit, supporting a young family member performing with the English National Youth Music Theatre. The 'pit' provides the entrance to the stalls behind which are attractive boxes. Looking up, the Dress Circle takes a visitor closer to an ornate ceiling -...More
