This is a great place to take an elderly friend for a walk around a fabulous garden. It's on the level! It is also very close to the city centre. The gardens are beautiful and there is a good quality eatery in the grounds. Wells Cathedral is a short walk away so it is easy to fill a day around... More

A place I love to spend some time - so much so that I've even bought a yearly season ticket! Another local place where I take visitors too. There is a handy lift in the Bishops Palace for those who cannot manage stairs and it was much appreciated by my 86 year old relative with her walker who was thankful... More

Whilst we didn't go into the actual palace we enjoyed time walking around the grounds and the moat. Information boards around the grounds and good waymarked walks.

We visited on a quiet and, fortunately, sunny October Sunday morning. Loved the gardens, overwhelmed by their serenity and tranquillity, and marvelled at the autumn colours. A lot of thought and expense has gone into making them visitor friendly and we also loved the café, which is a great modern space to enjoy hand made cakes and a good cup... More

Spent a whole day visiting this beautiful palace. Took advantage of two free guided tours and learned so much about the history of the building. Absolutely amazing to hear so much about the mixed history and influence of past King, Queens and Bishops on the Palace. Admission charge is £7.50 per adult , I think. Well worth visiting

Lovely gardens but unfortunately some filming was in progress the day of our visit so we were limited. We walked around the walls and the moat, watching the swans though they didn't ring the feeding bell. A relaxing, peaceful place.

A lovely day out in the sunshine painting and photographing the gardens. We had hoped to the see the swans famously ringing the bell for food, but the rope they pull on had been removed!!

Hello Peter! Many thanks for leaving us a lovely review. I'm so sorry that you were disappointed about the Swan Bell Rope - the rope is sometimes pulled up when there is no one inside the Gatehouse. This is to avoid causing the swans distress if they are ringing the bell and no one is available to feed them! More
