Home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for 800 years this stunning medieval palace is open for all to enjoy. Surrounded by a breathtaking moat with resident Mute swans, you can cross the Drawbridge to experience a true hidden gem in the heart of the City of Wells. The Palace sits within 14 acres of RHS partner gardens, including the beautiful well pools from which the city takes its name. In the Arboretum is the newly developed "Dragon's Lair" children's playground to tire out little legs. There are daily Guided Tours, a Cafe serving delicious lunches, cakes and hot and cold drinks. Dogs are welcome on leads.

I've been loads of time but took a couple of friends from Australia and had a lovely time wandering around. Palace and gardens very impressive and nice lunch too.

The bishops palace hasn't a great deal of interest, but during my visit an exhibition about the development of Wells was worth seeing. But the gardens are superb, and there are several benches where you can enjoy the summer sun and the herbaceous borders.

Do this in conjunction with the Wells Cathedral and you'll be a better person. Nice grounds and most. Cathedral probability more impressive building site.

I have eaten many times into the Bishops Palace. It is free to get into the grounds but you have to give a small fee to visit indoors.

If you are visiting Somerset the Bishop's Palace is an absolute must. Swans and cygnets, beautifully maintained gardens with a superb children's play area; waterfalls, springs, local history explained on fascinating tours; exhibitions and, of course, a cafe.

Particularly enjoyed looking around the gardens and moat which are beautifully tended and we were lucky enough to have super weather which is an added bonus.
