As National Trust members we decided to visit at least 1 place each time we are away. Staying in Dulverton, for the bank holiday and with Dunster Castle in easy reach, we decided to visit here. There is ample parking - pay and display for non members. Dogs are welcome everywhere except inside the castle itself. The extensive grounds are... More

It is a National Trust Property so expect the semi hard sell to join when you visit but on the other hand the money does get used to maintain the buildings. The Castle is interrsting and includes a water mill and grounds.

Everything about Dunster Castle is spectacular: the views are breathtaking - a plein air painter's delight! - the gardens are lovely and beautifully maintained, the rooms are interesting and the castle guides are friendly and informative. We did the Attic and Kitchen tours with Jayne whose enthusiasm was very infectious - in fact, so much did we enjoy the first... More

We decided to go and visit the gardens but not the castle. The gardens are beautiful and the views are great. This was a lovely place to visit on a early summer day- The gardens were very green and lush after the recent hot weather. We had coffee and cake at the mill cafe. Unfortunately the cakes- victoria sponge and... More

the castle was very interesting, a beautiful place to wander round. lots of information about the different exhibits as you walk from room to room. quite a hill to walk up to the entrance, but there is transport from the car park to the castle if necessary. the grounds are very pretty, spend as little or as much time as... We didn't want to go into the castle on a fine day. We had no idea before our visit of how good and varied the gardens were. It is a fairly steep approach to the castle, but the gardens encountered and the views were well worth the climb. Certain parts, like the crypt, can be accessed without the extra part... More

It was the first time a family member had been inside the castle although living in the area, the castle has a homely feel and there is plenty to see. the gardens are also worth a visit.

My wife and I popped into Dunster Castle, as we are NT members, on a visit to Minehead. If we had made a special visit we would have been sorely disappointed. There were several school outings, consisting of groups of young children poorly overseen by inconsiderate teachers. The shrieking and shouting inside the castle was so irritating we gave up... Lots of fascinating history attached to this castle and the extensive garden walks very relaxing and full of interest plus sea views across the Bristol Channel. It's worthwhile walking to the water mill to see how it works, but actual flour milling onlytakes place on the first Wednesday of the month. A full day is needed to appreciate all there... More
