Lovely, historic theatre with a fine tradition of first class productions. I have been coming here for more than 60 years and it never disappoints: classical dramas, new plays and pantomimes. It is currently going through a purple patch of new productions and distinguished casts.

went on a school trip to watch blue beard. it was great with an amazing story to finish it. the building was amazing as most theatres are. the humour was great too: e.g. the fearless F***ed and furious or the umbrella.

I love Blood Brothers, probably seen it maybe 10 times (I know go see something else) but I can honestly say this was one of the best productions I’ve ever seen. The lady playing Mrs Johnston, well her voice was amazing, I think it was better than when I saw the original London cast with Miss Dixon. The theatre itself is really lovely and the staff also really friendly. One lady in particular was very lovely to me when she saw I was suffering post knee surgery and even offered to move us. I persevered though and it was well worth it.

It had been a while since I last saw a play at this theatre. Recently our interests and priorities for entertainment have gone in a different direction, but we were given tickets to see a production this week, and I feel compelled to praise the many charms of this wonderful theatre. I’ve been a Bath resident on and off since 1986, but my first experience of it was in the early 70s when the family went on a Christmas pantomime trip put on by Westinghouse. Back then it was a pretty bleak and unlovely auditorium, but a makeover and extensive renovation around 40 years ago turned it to an elegant and smart provincial theatre that has attracted so many famous productions, famous actors, and premieres. Back in the 80s, a friend and I used to go pretty much every Saturday afternoon to the matinee performance if whatever was showing that week. We loved it! I’m a big Star Trek fan and I’ve seen Patrick Stewart play three different roles at this theatre! The theatre used to host new plays before they moved to the West End. I’m not sure this theatre has the same kudos now, but it retains its plush and calming atmosphere. It’s beautiful inside and really comfortable to sit in the stalls, Dress, or Royal Circle. It’s an intimate space and no one is far from the stage. It’s air conditioned so it’s pleasant even at the height is summer.
