Nothing special
Apr 2020
Situated in the city centre, this street contains some old timber-framed buildings but apart from that there isn’t a lot to see. The shops aren’t anything special and when we visited some major construction works were being carried out. The Covered Market is located nearby and is worth visiting.

The retail heart of Oxford!
Jun 2019
During our short stay in Oxford, we had the opportunity to visit Cornmarket Street on two separate occasions. Both times were during the day and each of those times the quite long pedestrian mall was crowded with both locals and tourists
The street is home to a large number of retail outlets, banks, fast food joints, coffee lounges and souvenir shops. When we were there, it was the souvenir shops which appeared to drawing the greatest number of shoppers.
Shopping can be a tiring activity and it is always good to have public benches where you can sit down for a short test. There are a few standard benches scattered along the street. However there are also these rather curious structures which provide you with the chance to half sit and half lean. They are not at all comfortable and they do not provide the opportunity to properly rest your legs or feet. The local council would do well to replace these useless structures with normal street benches. They also need to pay more attention to emptying the litter bins. On both occasions that we were in the street, the bins were full to over-flowing.
A good vicinity for a bit of retail therapy in the heart of Oxford but be prepared for crowds of people and lots of litter!

Disappearing shops
Sep 2019
Although at the heart of the city, Cornmarket Street has a lot less shopping potential than it used to. A number of the shops have relocated to the Westgate Centre, but some of the older stores as still here such as WH Smith & Boots. I've noticed the decline over the years, and the theme of the street nowadays seems to be fast food. There are at least five coffee shops within this area, and countless other eateries. The Clarendon Centre adjoins the street, and has seen some improvement since a few new stores have opened there. It always seems busy here, but most are simply using it to reach other destinations. A pity, since it should be much more shopper- friendly as it is generally the street most people see when they arrive in the city. Hopefully a few more proper shops could be tempted to open here.

Not pretty
Aug 2019 • Couples
This street is probably the least attractive in the centre of Oxford. There are some poor quality buskers and many beggars plus the shops are just high street chains so no reason to stop here.

Not the Best Shopping in the City Centre
Jun 2019 • Couples
Beling located in the city centre if you are doing a tour of |Oxford you will walk down Cornmarket Street, there are some notable historic buildings in the area so it is worth a visit. However I wouldn't go out of my way for the shopping experience, there is better in Oxford.

Horribly bleak and deserted

I can't believe what has become of Cornmarket Street. Hardly any shops survive there because of unscrupulous landlords who price interesting businesses out. Now half the street is made up of empty shops. It could be used to so much good. It's already pedestrianised, so why not have some restaurants and cafes there with outside seating for example?

I have seen much better...

Apart from a few extremely attractive beamed buildings, this street does not really stand out like several others i could mention.
It really gets very crowded at times and on the day we visited, the area was full of buskers/entertainers,some were excellent, others were quite the opposite.
The usual offering of shops frequent an otherwise very average shopping experience.
Visited January 2019.

A street, of sorts!
Sep 2018 • Couples
We wandered through this Oxford street during a short visit to this city. We did not think much of it then, as there wa hardly anything exceptional to see, apart from a few shops. Apparently it has been voted as one of the worst streets in Britain, but we would not place much credence on that, as we have no inside knowledge on all of the streets of Britain!

Nothing to see
Sep 2018 • Couples
This street is a bit down-market with begging and mixed quality buskers. There are all the usual high street shops.
