Oxford Castle Unlocked explores the 1000-years of Oxford's History. Led by one of our costumed characters, the rich history of the castle with a prison at its heart will be revealed to you. Climb St. George's Tower and take in the stunning views before descending into the atmospheric crypt, along the 18th century prison wing and into archaic man-made mound.

Great tour of the cells and crypt led by "Mary Blandy" who was very informative and refused to break Character even when challenged that her accent wasn't quite Oxfordshire. Thoroughly enjoyable, but signposting in the courtyard to the attraction needs attention, we walked in a...More

Interesting things to see, kids liked that the guide - Rowland Jenks(?) - a was an actor, part of the story. There were interactive things to do, good stories about the castle, and a lovely view from the top. Fair bit of stairs, but not...More

The place offers more of stories than building structure. I was hoping to see more of historic buildings but actually more about the stories in the past. If you are into stories, go for it. If you are into historical buildings you might get disappointed.

I took the tour while daughter was toiling over her last essay. Our guide was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable young man posing as a pilloried bookseller of Elizabethan times who spent time in the castle when it served as a prison. The castle has a...More

We decided to do the tour of the castle, as it was our first visit. We were shown around by a gentleman dressed in costume as a monk. He was quite clearly very knowledgeable about his subject, and we found it quite informative, and interesting....More

Our guide took on the persona of Daniel Harris and ensured that all of the party were involved taking on various roles in the story. Even 2 young children were enthralled by the tales of ghosts and macabre deaths, keeping the guide on his toes...More

Roland was a brilliant guide who really brought the castle and its history to life. There are 101 steps to the top of the tower but you can miss this bit of the tour and watch a short film instead. Plenty of places to eat...More

For your kid it should not be a bad place, but there are a few places like the basement or the cell, which are small and stuffy and may feel claustrophobic and/or a bit spooky. Overall if your kid/s likes new places and... More
