I am certainly no pub "expert," but I found the Bear to be exactly what one would imagine an old pub in Oxford would be. Low ceilings, creaky floors, boistrous students--the whole nine yards. It has a tremendous tie collection: each tie is carefully labelled...More

Wow not sure whom owns this fabulous piece of history but what a total let down. Nothing exciting at all. Why do you have a restaurant called The Bear and the interior and exterior have nothing to do with that except a small painted bear...More

Great, snug, elbow-jostling pub where you squeeze in and spill out into the courtyard. Food is great, beer is solid. Maybe it is the oldest pub in Oxford, maybe it isn’t - when you are there, you believe it is.

Small and cozy pop within the history of an old classic pub - the home of Inspector Morse & Lewis. A great place to stop for a pint of bear

Quaint ~ in fact, real quaint... but just a bit larger than the Haunch of Venison... another classic English pub you must experience. We ordered lunch... very busy place... sat in the back area as there's just not much room in side ~ maybe a...More

Medieval pub in new house since 17th century...Gigantic collection of cut ties, for those of you who are interested in such things. Perfectly normal beer.

Thank you for your review. The al fresco open mic on Sundays and Jazz on Tuesdays have been particularly enjoyable in this summer's perfect weather. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

The Bear Tavern is a small and a fantastical small pub in Oxford that serves up beers, wines and spirits. Very friendly people and really enjoyed the experience. Great place to pop in for a drink.
