After three visits to Oxford this was the first time that the Sheldonian had been open when I was there. The main auditorium, where students receive their degrees, is a wonder of architecture with beautiful internal decor. The ceiling painting, done in London as 32 individual panels then transported to Oxford for re assembly, is really stunning as are the... More

The 360 degree views of the Oxford skyline was fabulous. It was worth the climb to see the ornate spires and statues. The hall was a bit like the set of a Gilbert and Sullivan play,it reminded me of a pirate ship. Well worth a visit and not too expensive at £3.50.

An early building designed by Sir Christopher Wren. Pretty and compact. Truth be told, sitting on the benches for a long performance is potentially agonising (a good performance might transcend the discomfort) but if you're just visiting and like the look of buildings you shouldn't visit Oxford and miss this jewel.

The beautiful City of Oxford - popularly known as "The Home of Lost Causes" and derided by Cambridge University graduates as "The Latin Quarter of Cowley" - does not give up its best-kept secrets easily .... and amongst the most closely guarded of all those secrets are (in no particular order) the Bar of the Turf Tavern; the Chapel of... There are several steps to get to the top but it's worth getting there as you get some fantastic views of Oxford in all directions. The interior is also interesting!

The architecture is fashioned after Renaissance Italy and sometimes when you walk around and you look certain angles you forget you are in England! This building is one of those.

This is an iconic building and I am not certain if there is a guided tour but for us, it was a self tour with a pamphlet although the person selling the tickets was very knowledgeable and gave us a great insight before we embarked on the tour. The theatre itself was very interesting and only the floor was accessible... More

On our last night in Oxford, attended a concert by the Oxford University Symphony in this inspirational theatre built by Sir Christopher Wren. We were so close to the orchestra that it was almost overpowering; an awesome venue, and one not to be missed!
