- Joanna S3 contributionsCarriage DrivingBeing a horse rider for a long time, carriage driving was a whole new experience for me. The best thing about this was it was very hands on so if you love horses you get up close learning how to harness up your horse the correct way and putting to the carriage. Gail was very knowledgeable and friendly, she made me feel very comfortable and gave me loads of information on why things are done a certain way and the history behind the harness and carriages. We then set off on scenic drive through Cresswell Crags where I was handed the reins and taught how hold them properly and drive Rio the gorgeous coloured cob. It was very exciting. I took my mum and dad with me for the ride and we all had a very enjoyable afternoon. Highly recommendedVisited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 September 2023
- Timothy C1 contributionCarriage driving experience AMAZINGI had this AMAZING carriage driving experience for 2 hours for my birthday..... from start to finish the experience was outstanding. Gail who took me for the experience was truly special, she was patient and caring and wonderful. The staff who I saw looked all happy and was very friendly. The knowledge everyone knows is second to none and nothing was to much trouble. If you enjoy being in the outdoors and surrounded by horses and brilliant staff then definitely go .....Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 September 2023

- Dream5338521 contributionAmazing !!!What to say, this place is amazing, beautiful well cared for horses, fantastic friendly and knowledgable team and stunning surroundings. We went on a 3 day equestrian holiday, as three very different riders they catered for us wonderfully. An advanced 38 year old, a novice 9 year old with 3 years experience and me a 42 year old complete beginner. We enjoyed lessons, hacks, forest rides, stable management and lots of fun. We will definitely be back. Pete. Sarah and HattieVisited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 August 2024

Enjoyable carriage experience. Nice to learn about the different harnesses and carriages etc. Knowledgeable and patient staff. Lovely out in the Cregs on a sunny day. We were given alot of help on where to stay and eat near by which was also very useful as we were not from the area. My partner did a lesson and hack whilst I did the carriage experience which he enjoyed as only a beginner. The young girl that took him out for the hack was a lovely chatty girl which made it more comfortable for him. Rather than sitting in silence.
My only slight criticism would be that as its a very busy riding centre, the lady who was giving me the experience was in demand all the time and we were interrupted on numerous occasions even when we were in the middle of talking. I appreciate it's busy centre with alot of young girls needing help but after the first couple of times it came across as rude. Also we paid extra for prosecco on the ride which we never received/ did together. We did get an apology and told we would get the prosecco free next time (even though we paid for it?) so would have been nice to have been offered a refund on the bubbles.

Having been here 5 years ago my friend and I were looking forward to a nice hack in lovely surroundings. Unfortunately our previous experience was not met and fell a very long way short. Our 3 hour hack was quite frankly the worst riding experience I have ever paid for. I have ridden and owned my own horses for over 50 years so although I don’t consider myself the best or the bravest I am more than competent. We spent an hour riding out on tracks and roads, an hour walking around a “park” and an hour back the same way. We had no canters and just a handful of short canters. The mare I was riding decided she was wanting to go a bit quicker and “bolted” when I wasn’t expecting it; although alarmed, I wasn’t unseated and regained control but I did exclaim my surprise to which I was shouted at by our guide with “ I told you to stay behind” . My friend who is also very experienced and her mare really wasn’t up for the job and was very slow and behind the leg. Our guide was very young and really had no skill in making the guests feeling welcome and valued and added nothing to the quite terrible experience. We will not be returning and will not be recommending this riding establishment which is a shame considering our experience 5 years ago,

Lovely place, nice location, friendly helpful staff. Willing to trek in all sorts of weather. Very patient with young children, including unicorn mad toddlers who have looked forward to their party for ages then decide to have an hour long tantrum when they get there! Nice little trek to Creswell Crags and plenty of activities packed in with decorating the pony as a unicorn and colouring keyrings afterwards. Will definitely visit again, hopefully with a smiley toddler next time!

Written by my Girlfriend: "My boyfriend surprised me with a couples trek and carriage ride for my birthday. From beginning to end it was such a lovely experience. Our guides (Kennedy and Caitlin) were fantastic. Such young women, but so mature and professional. They took the time to answer every question we had and were always in control of the horses. I was very impressed. Needless to say, the scenery was perfect and the horses were gorgeous as well. The carriage ride was very romantic and I couldn't recommend it enough. It comes with a bottle of prosecco and you're made to feel very special. The owner Gale, is so warm and passionate about the work she and the rest of the staff do and I'm so grateful to her for helping my boyfriend arrange such a memorable afternoon. If you're thinking of making a visit, don't think twice!"

I have ridden at coloured Cob since September 2019 after moving to the area, Sharon, Gail and the team made me feel very welcome from the start, the horses are lovely, well looked after (spoilt even) and the backdrop of the craggs make for some beautiful scenery to ride in. CC cater for all ages and abilities from begginer to advanced and I will highly recommend the pub ride! Having seen the pony parties in action I can confirm it looks like a great way to celebrate a child's birthday. All in all a great place to ride and have fun surrounded by lovely staff and happy horses!

Better late than never, as they say. I came to coloured cob in May 2019 for a carriage driving experience day. It was a birthday pressie from my brother and sister in law. I booked in and Gail was my lovely teacher. We went to harness up Apollo and I think Gail was impressed as to how much I knew. We put Apollo to a 2 wheeled vehicle and we went for a drive along the graggs and back. We then harnessed up glendolf and put him to a 4 wheeled vehicle an went around the graggs again. This time we had a few canters. Gail is a wonderful teacher. I would very much like to come again. Maybe for a few days holiday and a side-saddle lesson. I would highly recommend.

My granddaughter lives in Plymouth but visits family on every possible occasion and attends this riding school at every opportunity. She has visited virtually everyday for the last four weeks and would move in if we let her.
The school offers excellent riding opportunity sat various levels, from group lessons to private lessons, pony clubs to trecking and all at great value for money.
I would recommend this school to everyone with an interest in horses.
The staff are extremely professional and friendly in every way and love what they do.
For horse friendly people this is the place to go.

Booked a half day horse riding experience for our Niece for her 18th birthday via the Red Letter Day Experience. She has never ridden before and was slightly nervous.
She was allocated a horse called Faith who was very placid and good natured. First she had a half hour lesson in a field. The lady who took the lesson was very kind and within 15 minutes she felt confident enough to trot. Am sorry but didn’t get her name.
She then had a break and had a bacon sandwich which was included in the price. My husband and I were able to purchase a sandwich and a drink at the same time and were able to sit outside and watch a riding lesson.
She then went on an hours trek led by Anna who again was very friendly and kind. She took is down a country track which eventually led into Cresswell Crags. She was very chatty and she even stopped by the fields and pointed out other horses at the stables. We were able to walk along side for the whole trek and enjoy the lovely scenery. At the end she had some photos taken as part of the package which will be posted out to us.
The whole experience lasted around 2.5 hours and went very smoothly. Our niece thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and felt safe the whole time. Every member of staff was very friendly and helpful from our arrival to our departure. The stables cater for riding of all abilities and age groups.

My Daughter rides here weekly and has come on so much in the space of a year! We had her party here and all hervfriends that attended loved every minute of it. We have taken various family members for treks who have all enjoyed their experience. All the staff are lovely and welcoming and very knowledgeable. I like yhatvthey have young adults helping out as it gains them valuable experience in a safe environment.

Really great place for both beginners and experienced riders. It's a professional place who care very much about their horses and also ensuring you have the best experience. We felt immediately welcomed and put at ease by the friendly staff. The horses are well schooled and responsive to ridings aids. It's not a basic treking centre! The lessons were great, with patient and helpful instructors, and there's beautiful countryside to hack through. We will definitely return!
