Lying in magnificent countryside next to a sweeping section of Hadrian's Wall and based at the site of Carvoran Roman Fort, the Roman Army Museum is an authentic and dramatic tribute to Rome’s extraordinary military legacy. Step into the life of a Roman soldier and experience life on the front line of Emperor Hadrian’s formidable British frontier. Explored through reconstructions, objects excavated along Hadrian's Wall and the Vindolanda Trust’s inspiring interpretations of army life including the exclusive 3D Edge of Empire film, the museum pays unforgettable homage to Rome's military accomplishments in Britain.

This place is a real find. If you are on holiday in this area the Roman Army Museum is a font of really interesting information during the Roman occupation of England during the first 300 years of this century. It contains a 20-minute film depicting...More

We got the combo pass for the Roman Museum and Vindolanda. The Roman Museum pales in comparison to Vindolandia. We spent about 2 hours at Vindolandia and about 45 minutes of the Roman Museum. Vindolandia has a great museum - with so many currently items...More

This was a great museum experience for our family. The museum is very accessible for all ages and engaging for all the family. The exhibits are fully interactive and we particularly enjoyed the recruitment video and the classroom experience. The information panels, media and exhibits...More

Great museum, very interesting and reminding you of things that you were told a school years ago. The 3D film was very good, along with the rest of the museum.

Did both Vindolanda and Roman Army museum. Both are well worth the time and money. Vindolanda has all the ruins and shoes and writings. Roman Army Museum has video displays that make life at the wall more real, human and personal. We liked seeing re-creations...More

Excellent 3-D film, soldier & teacher projections. So informative for a small museum. Ladies' toilet is incredible!

Not what I was really expecting and to book honest a let down after vindolanda. Short film didn't tell you much and not a huge lot on display either. Very small cafe and usual gift shop. Would leave this out and just visit vindolandaMore

Take time here to experience life on the edge of the empire. Don't miss the 20 minute film as it puts the wall and the life of soldiers based here into perspective. Get the joint ticket for Vindolanda as it's good value and you need...More

This Museum has been revamped with help from a lottery grant and is superb. Interactive displays tell about the life of the Roman Army, its soldiers and way of life. Information about Hadrian Wall. The 3D film gives a short,17minute, overview of the entire wall...More

Our visit was on a cold, windy, showery and very dull day - just the weather for standing on Hadrian's Wall and staring towards Scotland. They may have been invaders but I couldn't help but have empathy for any poor devil posted here! As to...More

Currently the museum does not have a roman costume area, however we are looking into this as an option during the Hadrians Cavalry exhibition this summer.
