Holy Trinity Goodramgate has the air of a hidden treasure. It stands in a small, secluded, leafy churchyard, with the Minster towering behind, tucked away behind Goodramgate - one of York's busiest shopping streets. To visit, you pass through an 18th-century archway tacked on to buildings that served as artisans' workshops in the 14th century. The church itself is full of character. The floors and arcades are charmingly uneven. Light filters through the windows, illuminating honey-coloured stone. The east window especially has marvellous stained glass that was donated in the early 1470s by the Reverend John Walker, rector of the church. On sunny days, transient gems of coloured light are scattered on the walls, and various Medieval faces stare out from the windows.

We visited this hidden gem (literally, well hidden!) while participating in the free walking tour of York. A beautiful church that simply drips with centuries of history. The wooden family box pews reminded me of the old churches in Boston. Wonderful place to visit.

So interesting to see the box pews, as they are fairly rare now. This church's box pews were featured in a period drama being shot in York. Well maintained church, lots of history.

Saw this on tripadvisor but didn't go "looking" for it, I stumbled upon this beautiful little church. I'm not a religious man myself but found this church to be one of my favourites I have visited. Very quiet, even on one of Yorks busiest days of the year. Well worth a visit if you're in York city centre.

Discovered this church by accident as I was strolling along Goodramgate. It is well hidden amongst the shops but worth a visit. The box pews and wonky floors are striking. Leaflets are provide to guide you to some of the curiosities. It is beautiful and a haven of peace in amidst the bustle of the city.

Such a gem. One of the oldest structures in York but well preserved, a must to include in a walking tour of the beautiful city of York

York is lucky in having a substantial number of old churches, some of which are still used for religious purposes, whilst others have been adapted to more modern uses. Holy Trinity is in the care of CCT, and is usually open. There is a useful leaflet to guide you round, and plenty to see. At he moment it has excellent... More
