Holy Trinity Goodramgate has the air of a hidden treasure. It stands in a small, secluded, leafy churchyard, with the Minster towering behind, tucked away behind Goodramgate - one of York's busiest shopping streets. To visit, you pass through an 18th-century archway tacked on to buildings that served as artisans' workshops in the 14th century. The church itself is full of character. The floors and arcades are charmingly uneven. Light filters through the windows, illuminating honey-coloured stone. The east window especially has marvellous stained glass that was donated in the early 1470s by the Reverend John Walker, rector of the church. On sunny days, transient gems of coloured light are scattered on the walls, and various Medieval faces stare out from the windows.

This church still had the box pews in it and is very historical. Well worth visiting. Buy something there to support the churches conservation trust! It is hidden away on a shopping street so is a pleasant place to escape to.

Not your normal church but one from the more Puritan times. The church is old and very pretty in it's own way.

I spent the first 20 years of my life in York, and thought that I knew the city well - but I did not know that this amazing church existed - until 2017. It is an amazing place! Worth seeking out.

Though not on the A (or even B) list of sights in York, this ancient church (which has never been electrified) gives insights into church life of old, including the unusual box-like configuration of wooden pews, unlike anything I'd seen before.

Loved this old church, with the closed in pews. Although it was not a whopping great cathedral, it was very interesting. We had a few wonderful explanations of various areas inside.

Was shown this as part of a walking tour, we would not have known it was there otherwise. Its grounds are an oasis of calm and the church itself is very interesting

Hello, It should take you around 10 minutes to reach us on foot from the station. The easiest route would be to turn left out of the station, cross the river, and keep walking straight on towards York Minster. When you... More
