York is one of the few places in the UK where a large part of the city wall is still in tact and can be used to partially walk around the old town. This does provide an interesting view of the old city centre and gives nice perspectives for photography. Give it a try.

The walls are a great way to see York. They are also a convenient way to get around the city, if you're not too particular on where you get on and off!

We wandered along two sections of this on separate days - we actually found it a good way to get to places from our hotel. It was lovely being up high and seeing everything and an interesting thing to look at itself. Kids enjoyed the novelty of being about to walk along such a long wall. There are sections with... More

Enjoyed a day in this city last Sunday. Absolutely majestic! Loved the architecture and design in every corner! People are quite friendly as well. Full of history and marvelous views! Worth the 4 hrs drive from London.

We enjoyed our first walk along the York City Wall last weekend. The wall is not continuous around the City but it is easy to pick up the part where the wall begins again. I think it is approximately 1.5 - 2 miles in total. It is free to walk the wall but there are a couple of extra attractions... More

The city walls are a great walk on a nice day. Plenty to see all around. If you have problems with walking or climbing it's not for you though. Lots of stairs up and down.

The original walls still surround the city center and allow the tourist to take a look at the city of York from a different perspective. These massive walls still protect and defend the city and can be walked on even on a rainy day. Spectacular!

I have walked around York walls on many many occasions and they never cease to delight at every turn whatever the season. This latest visit coincided with blue skies and cherry blossom and at each corner you spot a lovely vista or glimpse a different angle of the minster. The walls are well maintained but care is needed in some... More

Lovely day spent in York and a walk of the entire walls. Lots of great view points and plaques with history facts. If you go to York, a walk of the walls is definitely worth doing.

We walked the length of the walls and were treated to some great sights. It's not particularly taxing although there are some narrow bits and steps. The highlight is easily the portion of the wall which goes round York Minster.
