We walked all the way round on a pleasant November day. It's really good exercise, enough to make you feel that you have done a walk but not so much that it is an endurance test. The views are great, especially of the minster. There are lots of cafes to stop at on the way round and there is lots... More

We have previously walked all the way round the walls several times but now pick certain sections, back of the Minster is a favourite for views, but all sections are good, there are a lot of steps that can be slippery so sensible shoes, and peak season they can be very busy with some narrow walkways to contend with.

only comment would be that the signage to the different sections is not clear enough and could be better signposted

We decided that we would tackle walking the whole way round the City Walls and were so pleased that we did. It took us about two hours in total and had some interesting aspects of the city. Wouldn't recommend it for anyone a bit unsteady on their feet as parts of the wall have no hand rail/fencing and there is... More

What a fantastic way to peer into the city and see the wonderful York Minster as well as the hidden sights of the back streets and gardens , which you would never see from the streets. Best free trip in York!

Wonderful walk around the city of York. My teens and I all enjoyed it and it was a nice way to spend an afternoon and offered wonderful views of York Minster and other parts of the city.

Walked around the wall of York, stopped off for the odd coffee break. Loved it, there are plenty of interesting facts posted along parts of the wall telling of York's fascinating history. well worth doing.

I love to walk around the city walls, there is so much to see and learn about. You could choose as I do to read all the information boards and really find out about the history of them or just wander around and enjoy the views. They are free to wander around, other than a museum which is set into... More

The complete walk for the brave, or selected parts of the walk if in need of courage or time. Great way to get some scenic views and to get a better understanding of the lay-out of a medieval city.

An excellent way to see this great city from above and also to get around on foot. The walls are virtually complete and are intersected by gates called "bars". Beware some unprotected drops.
