It does cost to go into the minister but it is well worth the money. It is such a spectacular building at the heart of York. If you have any interest in history and architecture this place is a must visit.

Lovely walk through the minster. Interesting history and lovely architecture. Didn't go to the tower and there was a funeral service at time of our visit so couldn't access all areas

A definite must if visiting York. £10 entry plus £5 for tower view (spiral stone staircase with LOTS of uneven steps) view is great if you are ok to climb. Regular optional free tour guides by volunteers who show pictures on tablets - very informative....More

We did a self guided tour with no guide or time restrictions. My husband and son took the roof top tour and it was filled over an hour out. Go early if you don’t have the ability to wait. They seemed to run every 45 minutes... More

There are at least 4 services every day. Details are on the Minster's website but evensong at 5.15 on weekdays, usually with the choir, is very popular.
