You really can't visit York without visiting the Minster. The entrance fee isn't cheap so make sure you take the free guided tour. You can walk around yourself but the guided tour is full of interesting facts and stories which you'd otherwise be unaware of.

The York Minster is a very good cathedral to visit with a long and interesting history and some beautiful architecture. I would strongly recommend doing the visit in conjunction with one of the Minster guides - this provided a lot of very interesting information and historical stories about the history of the Minster.

I thought it was expensive to visit and an extra £5 for a visit up to the top of the minister which you must do but not for the feint hearted if you don't like heights. The ticket for the minster will last you a year but I am not sure how many visitors will be back. A top must... More

I love old buildings and especially grand cathedrals. However, York Minster has a serious flaw... It's definitely impressive, and it can be seen from miles around given York is on flat land and there are few if any other tall buildings there (Park Inn by Radisson is another but not in the same league!) But £10 entry fee plus another... More

You can't go to York without visiting the Minster, there is so much to see and so much learn about this wonderful building, I would recommend you join one of the free tours as these are very informative, We were lucky enough to catch an organ recital on our visit, Which was an added bonus

Look out for the wooden carved chest in the undercroft. The carvings (14th century?) are fantastic they include knights and dragons and people from all walks of life. It is hidden in a dark corner next to an indifferent mosaic. The mosaic is well lit but in my opinion the chest is more worthy of attention. I couldn't find anything... More

We attended an Evensong service at the York Minster Cathedral in May 2017. The choir for the service was from a neighboring city, and we met some of the relatives of 3 of the singers while we were standing in line waiting to get in. We had seats next to the choir and enjoyed the service very much. The next... More

It looked good from the outside but at £10 each to get in to a place of worship we didn't do anything but step inside the porch. Yes the upkeep costs must be huge but I would be happy to pay something but their fee was prohibitive. Not very Christian really.
