The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall is one of York’s medieval marvels. Set in beautiful gardens in the heart of historical York, it is open for public use as a museum, wedding and hospitality venue and meeting place some 650 years after construction began in 1357. This stunning timber framed building was constructed by a fraternity made up of York citizens to provide a base for charity, worship and business. Today, as well as being a fascinating accredited museum it is also a scheduled ancient monument and Grade 1 listed building. The Hall is home to many remarkable collections. Including silver, furniture and paintings, which provide a glimpse into the rich history of the Hall and the people associated with it. The Hall also remains the everyday base for the Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York. They invite you to discover the secrets of this unique guild hall and its 650 years of history.

Not large, but a very interesting place with really good displays on its and York's history and it was quiet when we visited. We spent a over an hour walking through it all. There is a free Audio Guide covering all areas, so you can choose whether just to listen to the general Information on each room, or hear more... More

Worth a visit to discover the trade as a port that took place in York. The timber structured interior of this building is quite unique and most interesting

Good stop if you have lots of time in York. It is not expensive and the price included an audio tour.

A timber framed guild hall set in a slightly sunken walled garden within a triangle formed by two streets and a river. Essentially consists of ground floor/cellar Undercroft and chapel. Above that on the first floor is the main timber arched hall and small conference/meeting rooms for the guildsmen who created it. The main hall has a piano in the... More

Had our wedding here, what a magnificent place. Access to all areas inc lovely gardens, this 600 plus year old building is just steeped in history. Love the sloping floor in the main hall and the little chapel. Well worth seeing.
