We thoroughly enjoyed this museum. It wasn't too big but the stories it told were wonderful. Its location is also beautiful with squirrels running around and the remains of St Mary's Abbey close by. Would highly recommend a visit.

There's way better things to do in York in my opinion, and if you want a museum then the rail museum and the castle museum are easily better than this. I confess I'm not the biggest ever fan of museums but it held my attention...More

This museum has Roman artefacts as well as Viking artefacts and is very well presented with interactive exhibits

We enjoyed the museum, its £7.50 to get in & then you could wander around yourself looking at the various artefacts. We were probably there about an hour. The virtual face masks were great & the library was fascinating with books dated in the 1500's!...More

M and I are locals and have visited the museum several times before. We were keen to see the Viking exhibition and as our visitors J and D hadn't been to the museum previously, this seemed like a good time to go. We got our...More

Poorly laid out and cramped this exhibition was both a disappointment and expensive experience that was not worth the time and money.

I saw the Viking exhibition currently on -magnificent, stuff on loan from the British museum. Lots for the children. Very friendly and helpful staff. Not too dauntingly enormous, a smaller number of artifacts.

I love the ruins, such as they are. Because of the danger of falling rock, you can't get as close as I would have liked to, and a closed cemetery was off limits, presumably for the same reason. Yet the plantings, views and walkways were...More

This museum is great for all the family showing off the much varied history of York, allow at least an hour to visit, if not longer.

Hi Annette. The adult admission is £7.95. However if you live within a reasonable distance of York or are a regular visitor you might like to consider a York Museums Trust Card which is £20 by direct debit. This gets you... More
