This is a beauty of a house, so much to see when inside, the decor is amazing, the ceilings are a work of art. There are clocks of every shape and size and they all keep perfect time. The guides all know a great deal about the house, its occupants and the contents.

Have been before, on this occasion it was a little last minute, more to fill time at the end of the day. I think this is the sort of place where if you have seen it once then that's enough. Exhibits are of a high quality. Very knowledgeable guides.

A little gem in the heart of York. The excellent room guides paint a historic picture of what life would have been like in early 19th century England

A lovely Georgian home with a terrific furniture collection. Well worth a visit. The plaster work is particularly distinctive and worth seeing.

A delightful afternoon in a lovely house with opportunity to chat with friendly, well informed room guides. Stunning ceilings and staircase! A lucky survivor after a rather checkered history! Well done to the trust for a fine restoration!

We visited on a Monday when there are two guided tours at 11am and 2pm. On other days the house is open continuously but without guides. I'm glad we had a guide as we got so much more out of the visit. The house is a splendid one, the rooms being well laid out. A thoroughly enjoyable visit and excellent... More

There are two Fairfax Houses in York. One is a hall of residence for the University of York. You can book rooms there in summer vac. This FH is within the walls. It's a good place to visit and have a look around. It's the feel of the place and the stories told that make it worth that bit more... More
