Fantastic Georgian period house

Very interesting visit. Rooms are furnished in true Georgian style. Each room had someone in it to explain the history and different aspects of the property.

Beautiful, original Georgian period house with a huge collection of Georgian furniture. Original ceilings have managed to survive despite being a cinema and dance hall from the 1920's. Won't take long to visit but we loved it - worth the £6 entry fee. If history and architecture are not your thing, then avoid.

This house of Lord Fairfax has been lovingly restored in great detail, after it had been used as a cinema and a nightclub. Very helpful staff explain the history and show you around. It's very near to the Castle Museum so you can stop by when in the area.

Each room has a volunteer ready and willing to tell you lots about the room: thus there is no need for an audio-guide. Photography is also not allowed in the house. In the entrance hall, there are lockers to deposit bulky items like rucksacks so you do not knock precious objects over. I see the house as mainly an exhibition... More

We had a guide to take us around Fairfax House, who made its history very interesting for us. The house has been beautifully restored - the ceilings and staircase were magnificent. The best part of the visit, however, was the Shoe exhibition - we were given a very interesting talk, but i would have liked much longer to admire and... More

This is right next door to Clifford's Tower and the Castle Museum and well worth a visit. It's not the biggest house but a lovely example of Georgian design. A lot of restoration work has been done to put the house back to its original state - one of the guides told us she used to visit in the 60's... More

A must visit for any if you Georgian buffs , very centrally located in York and houses a fine collection of Georgian furniture donated by the Terry family . I particularly like the wall coverings in the bedrooms and the dining room service . You can hire the venue for private dinner parties .. Would so live to do that... More

I visited Fairfax House on 13.03.16 with my mum. The house has been beautifully restored and the staff were very knowledgeable. The only negative was that photography was not allowed, hence the 4 stars. Definitely worth a visit. Entry is free if a York pass is used.

This house is set in the mid to late georgian era with most of trimmings that come with a medium sized town house from that era. Undoubtedly a popular tourist attraction , but not run by the national trust as is normal with these houses . Guides are enthusiastic and know lots about the house , but perhaps not an... More
