Love this old church and a reply to Paul s in Australia, shut your mouth moaning the churches of St John and St hilda are very different in the groups they cater for . Seems a but silly locating all you conspiring ex convicts on one tiny island.

This church is situated in the main high street area, and is a very nice example of an old church, a slightly unusual design for a Catholic Church, and well worth a visit.

Decided to attend mass here whilst on holiday in Whitby. I'm glad I did as it was a lovely experience. For a start the church interior is impressive and well maintained. The priest, Fr. Keogh , and the congregation seemed friendly and welcoming. If you are Catholic, (or even if you're not!!) I thoroughly recommend a visit.

We love looking around old Church's as they hold a lot of interesting history and tell us a lot about our times gone by

We happened to be walking past St Hilda's and noticed that the church was open. Full marks to the Catholics for their policy of open churches! Of course with no service on, the lighting was dim, so the interior wasn't showing up to its best. I was struck by the large round supporting columns, and of course the star studded... More

Architecturally interesting and always worth several visits as many of it features are unusual, in the fact they still remain.

Father Keogh made a point of welcoming people on such a cold night. The Church was warm and for such a large building it must take some heating. The Whitby Angels gave a short talk about how they help people on an evening in Whitby and asked for volunteers. A lovely service from a lovely Priest.

Stopped in here for a quite moment to reflect on life, mine and others I have meet, past and present. Also to spare a thought for all the suffering in France and Europe. Made a simple offering of prayer and a candle to hopefully bring comfort to others.
