Great reviews put visiting this museum on my to-do list, but it took seeing it to understand just how crammed full of amazing treasures this little space is. From fabulous fossils to wondrous carvings in Whitby jet, military memorabilia to household goods of past times,...More

This museum is completely unique, imagine stepping back into the late 19th century days of antiquarian's collecting anything and everything and then putting every sing;e thing in display cases, that's pretty much Whitby Museum. I suppose it's probably either a 'love' or 'hate' type place...More

Please never modernise this delightful space, crammed with unusual exhibits. I feel the building and layout belongs in a museum itself. It has been years since I have been in somewhere with genuine nostalgia and sense of the past.

Great place to spend a rainy afternoon. Lots of varied and interesting exhibits. Good section on ship building in Whitby.

So much to see we could have spent much longer there. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the museum is in a beautiful park which is well worth visiting.

Popped in to look at the art which was free and was unsure about the £5 charge to the museum, didn't seem to be much for the money, how wrong we were!!! This place is crammed with interesting artefacts from fossils and rocks to stuffed...More

I reviewed this in July 2015, but this review is equally applicable. The Museum is compact, but so evocative.......a place for reflection in conjunction with next door's gallery... I recommend a visit if you are able.
