This is an excellent trailway at any time of year. Ideal for cyclists and walkers alike and we have passed horses on some sections too. Easy walking and you can stop off on the way for sightseeing. We used the section from Larpool to Whitby recenly that takes you over the Larpool viaduct. Lovely views from the top.

This is not a stroll in the park ride but it is well worth the effort. We biked from Whitby to Robin Hood's Bay. The views are superb and there is some seating along the route to stop and picnic or just to admire the views. It is harder to find seating in Robin Hood's Bay without leaving your bikes... More

We did the journey Whitby to Pickering and back, lovely experience of a steam train. Enjoyed every moment. Pickering was a lovely place to visit too. Only dislike was the price, expensive.

We stayed in Ravenscar, so did Ravenscar to Whitby and back one day, and Ravenscar to Scarborough the next. The Ravenscar to Whitby section is very rough, and could do with more cinders in places, with cobbles and stones sticking out of the track. Even though the section to Robin Hood's Bay is downhill, in many ways it was easier... More

Be prepared for a more strenuous ride that you imagined. Railway routes converted to cycle/footpaths are expected to be flat but this is one route that isn't. It's surprisingly tiring - some of the energy expenditure is due to overcoming the drag cause by the cinder track in fact the route is know by some of the locals as 'the... More

We walked the path starting at Ruswarp, just outside Whitby and went to Robin Hood's Bay and back. It was a sunny Sunday September day and it was quite busy. Cyclists or joggers must have passed us every 5 minutes. The path is in good shape considering how many people were using it with only a small amount of puddles.... More

Our guest is a Yorkshireman with a fascination with steam trains. Dinner on the Pullman was a great 90th birthday treat

My wife and I picked up the Cinder track (part of the old railway) from the start at Whitby. I have looked on various maps and I can't find mention of the start. It is Southend Gardens, Whitby. A wordof advice I wore walking sandals, no good for a Cinder path. I would therefore recommend boots. We just went as... More

Hired some bikes from Trailways (1 mile outside Whitby on the road to Robin Hood's Bay) and spent a lovely sunny day cycling to Ravenscar and back. Excellent support and advice when choosing the bikes from a guy that clearly knows his stuff. My 9 year old son and I managed the 'long pull' up to Ravenscar but my partner... More

Whitby was fascinating - loved the harbour and open topped bus ride. Abbey on hill was very interesting with an excellent open air Frankenstein play - actors extremely entertaining. Nice walk down into some quaint streets.
