The Tees Transporter Bridge has played an important role in the area's history for over a century and continues to Provide an important and unique crossing over the River Tees. In recent years the Transporter has emerged as a leading historic visitor attraction and is one of the UK's major sites for extreme sports including abseils, bungee jumps and zipslides. In 2011 to mark the Bridge's centenary the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) confirmed a £2.6m award for refurbishment and upgrade work to the Tees Transporter Bridge. The HLF supported Tees Transporter Bridge Visitor Experience Project included the installation of a glass viewing lift to provide improved access to the upper walkway, renovation of the gondola, replacement of the Bridge's motors and the development of state-of-the-art visitor facilities and resources.

How often do you get to ride on a historic monument for coppers - here is the opportunity. The way by which millions will have moved from one side of the River Tees to the other. Good experience for people of all ages. If there is a strong wind it may be closed but it is simple to get to... More

This amazing bridge is like non other that I have ever seen. It's called a bridge but not one that you drive across in the normal way, you actually drive onto a gondola that is suspended from the overhead structure and in no time you have crossed over the river. We went across twice in the car, twice as pedestrians... More

If you've never been on a transporter bridge before you're missing out on a unique experience ! This bridge is the longest one of its type in the world. For £5 per adult you can have a tour of the museum and winch room, go to the top of the bridge in a glass elevator and walk across the top.... More

The structure can be seen for miles around, the closer you get the more incredible it is. There is is a nice little visitor centre with friendly staff who will tell you more about the bridge and local area, and organised tours are available for only a fiver, where you can go to the top of the structure. The crossing... More

Great trip out to the transporter bridge on the tour today. You get to go up to the top in a glass lift and walk along the length of the bridge and then ride across in the gondola with the cars. Great views from the top and lots of local history too. Our guide was great. Even the kids enjoyed... More

We often go shopping at Middleborough and can see the bridge in the skyline..as an adult I'd never actually been on it so I asked my partner if he would take me on it..it was a simple car ride over the river but as my partner explained a short cut that saved miles of a journey..I enjoyed learning a bit... Friendly staff and a quick grossing. Smooth from start to finish. Remember handbrake on and engine off, not sure why they just didn't build a bridge though.

The transporter bridge is a truly iconic structure in this part of the UK and us the longest working transporter bridge in the world. When I lived in Middlesbrough some 45 years ago we all really took the transporter bridge for granted and it is so pleasing to see that, nowadays, it is world famous and a genuine tourist "attraction"....
