Barts
About
Pssst… Become part of London’s worst kept secret! Somewhere on Sloane Avenue lies Barts, one of London’s first late-night speakeasy bars. Set in the 1920’s prohibition era as the private apartment of the elusive Uncle Barts, friends and associates are invited to join in the bootlegging activities operated by his gangsters. Sneak into the apartment through the black door to gain access to illicit cocktails and top secret shindigs, where you can also smuggle drinks into the Secret Garden to evade the cops!

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Chelsea
Wealth courses through The King's Road, Chelsea's upmarket artery of West London life packed with shops, eateries and glitzy nightspots. For people-watching at its best and luxury retail therapy that's largely unrivalled, this area cannot be missed. But if this showy street starts to overwhelm or a moment of price tag shock sends you reeling, a quick detour down pretty much any of many King's Road veins will reveal a quieter side of Chelsea. Here the stately Royal Hospital hosts its world-famous flower show, and the Thames rolls along at a lazy pace, with leafy Battersea Park and its Peace Pagoda beckoning from across the river.

I go to Barts quite often with a group of friends who live in the area. We usually go on Saturdays. The atmosphere is excellent. The cocktails are a real treat and the music keeps me and my group dancing all night.
This Thursday I decided to take some people from my office and to our surprise there were very few people there and the music was really awful. The DJ was playing hip hop, RnB and other styles of music that had nothing to do with the place or the people who frequent it.
After we finished our drinks we left. A real shame.

We've been to quite a few, this was our favorite! The atmosphere was amazing and the staff was the best. I wish I could remember our server's name. She was the door monitor as well and played the part so well. She made our night. And the drinks...a special one with a bruleed banana. Maybe the best drink I've ever, ever had.

The bar itself is quirky but the vibe was dead and staff kept coming over to ask if we wanted anything else when we clearly still drinking and busy in conversation. Had one waiter very rude who told us we had to leave as they had reservations although there was plenty of seating! He also said we don’t split the bill here it’s a members bar?! He basically made us feel not wanted even though we bought at least two drinks each and eager for us to leave. Who ever this waiter is please fire him he is really letting this venue down. I can see others have complained about him too. I definitely won’t be coming back or recommending to others.

Our first waiter Sebastian was wonderful, however he was soon replaced by Gabrielle - an exceptionally rude waiter. It’s such a shame as my experience at the other brands owned by the same company have been largely amazing - this was a real let down on customer service. We had an issue with one of the drinks - he told us we didn’t have the palette for it - and he knows as he’s also a bartender. He also kept trying to flog us shots - totally the wrong vibe for it and the place was pretty empty for a Saturday night. Sadly this is also a place which has toilet attendants who get angry if you don’t tip them. Worst of all, Gabrielle was downright rude when we asked to split the bill we were informed he can’t as customers are waiting. Terrible and would never return here now.

Worst bar in London, we arrived at 11h and waited until 12h30 so they finally tell us we won't get in, while they knew all along we wouldn't. They let in half of the group and keep telling us to wait while letting other people in. Very rude and disrespectful, I highly don't recommend it if you want to have a fun night.

So glad we decided to hit this place up when in London. We were made to feel right at home. The service by Sebastian was wonderful and all the drinks we tried were delicious. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed the themed speakeasy dramatics of Barts - and the cocktail menu was great. We had a fun night, enhanced by the friendly staff and live DJ.

Great little venue with lovely cocktails. The 1920s speakeasy theme was great.
The downside is, its very difficult to find.
Google maps has 2 locations and sent us walking in circles. You wont find any signage for it on the street. You have to go into Chelsea Cloisters Hotel and the staff direct you from there.
Staff are very good and professional.
