Fantastic jazz from the Ridout family tonight, well done Vortex for putting them on!

The hugely talented Tom (sax), Alexandra (tpt) & Mark Ridout (gtr) performed some exceptional jazz tonight, ably supported by a great rhythm section. Loved the choice of music... read more

Book a table, relax and be entertained. We saw and heard Carol Grimes and her musicians. There were two sets with a short intermission. She sang jazz standards, blues, songs written by her and friends. The venue can be crowded but the sound system is fine and clear and everyone can see the performers. Wine, beer etc is served by the glass or bottle,coffee... More

Robust jazz club with original jazz attitude. A good local jazz band was performing the night I visited the club and the audience was there to listen the music, not to visit a must to see club. Highly recommedated.

My friend and I left Portsmouth late afternoon to see Tassos Spiliopoulos (easy for you to say that) at the Vortex Jazz Club, both new to me. The venue is quirky, above a cafe in one of the less salubrious corners of trendy Dalston and overlooking a skateboard park, the only time I've been able to listen to jazz and... More

The hugely talented Tom (sax), Alexandra (tpt) & Mark Ridout (gtr) performed some exceptional jazz tonight, ably supported by a great rhythm section. Loved the choice of music from Coltrane to Stevie Wonder! The Vortex was quieter than usual this Tuesday night, surprisingly so given that Alexandra and Tom were so well featured in the BBC Young Musicians of the... More

If you want to see some quality live jazz, this is your best bet in London. Forget Ronnie Scott's with its snooty staff and overpriced door / menu. The Vortex is run by the community for music lovers. Supported by volunteers behind the bar (and sometimes sound desk), it's a bit rough and ready but a proper music experience. Music... More

I visited this club for the first time the other day, and really enjoyed the ambience, the company, the service and the act - The Ant Law Quintet. The place was full, and the atmosphere was friendly, intimate and upbeat. The proprietor greeted our party in a friendly way, and there was decent food and drink available. In the surrounding... I am new to Jazz, being a convert after my wife's influence and listening to the various channels on Play. After reading about the various Jazz venues in London I was drawn to Vortex because it is affordable and run by volunteers. I was not dissapointed by the music and the venue was better than I expected. Me, I am... More

I've been to the Vortex many times in the past but New Years Eve last year will be my last time. When we booked I was told the numbers would be restricted to about 50 to prevent overcrowding but there was over 70 people & because the food was a buffet it was necessary but very difficult to get up... My first and probably last visit to the Vortex. The website indicted that the gig was from 8.00 pm to 11.00 pm. In fact doors opened at 8.00 pm and band started playing at 9.00 pm. I was third person to arrive and was shown my place at a table and found that I was seated directly behind a column... More
