About
A historic arthouse cinema, Curzon Bloomsbury cherishes its heritage, and its five screens are named after iconic Curzon-operated sites since 1934, including the beloved Renoir, the largest, theatre-style auditorium. It is also home to Bertha DocHouse, a dedicated documentary screen that hosts documentary premieres, seasons and live Q&As with filmmakers. The venue is centrally located in the Brunswick Centre, and boasts a light and airy cafe with floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

Neighbourhood: Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.

It used to be a nice cinema and bar but lately the management has made poor recruitment decisions, with several arrogant staff making customers feel uncomfortable

I have been a customer of Curzon Bloomsbury for 18 years, back when it was still called Renoir. I have seen hundreds of films there. Now I live nearby so sometimes I just come for a coffee. On 8th March at around 15:30 I went there. I needed to use the toilet so before ordering my coffee I started walking down to go to the toilet, as I had a backpack and didn't want to leave it unattended. As I was walking down a tall, blond young-ish male employee came shouting after me, asking me aggressively "where's your ticket?". I said I don't have a ticket because I just came to the bar and wanted to use toilet first. He replied, still in an agressive tone, that toilets "are for customers only". Without asking me if I am a customer or not, if I had the intention of ordering a drink or not. He made me feel so umcomfortable and threatened that I gave up having a drink there and left.

In fact, I felt so humiliated that I am not going to use Curzon Bloomsbury bar or the cinema again, as long as the aggresive employee is still working there.

Curzon should be more careful with recruitment. Hiring arrogant people with an atittude will drive customers away.

I left this feedback on Curzon's website (as they do not provide an email address). What was their answer? Zero, nothing, they just ignored me. Not even an acknowledgement email. Wrote again on 8th March, they kept on ignoring me. So now they will have this compaint made public across the internet, for everyone to see.

Don't worry about replying, I found another coffee shop and cinema already (there's plenty of both in Central London). And don't ask me to remove reviews in this and other sites, I won't. I'm not even going to come to this page to see your insincere reply.

I am a local resident that used this cinema since it was the Renoir, I also use the bar area once or twice a week to sit and read with a drink. It has become impossible to sit inside with the terrible smell of the pizza oven recently introduced. Even sitting outside is difficult with the smell. The staff are more interested in talking to each other and you get the feeling you're in the way. The tables and chairs are filthy, some winters I have put a plastic bag on inside chairs as I hate looking at the grubby fabric. Sadly after almost a lifetime of this being my local I will have to find somewhere else to eat and drink, I won't be sitting inside or veiwing films during winter months with the stink of pizza oven. How people can even eat that with staff not adhering to hand hygiene amazes me! They have plastic gloves on to prepare food but touching everything! Extortionate ticket prices, website doesn't work, dirty environment and uninterested staff. Go elsewhere.

For a cutting edge London cinema their website is an utter shambles. 'Oops something is wrong' everytime I go on to book tickets is all it says. It looks like a GCSE student in Year 10 has cobbled it together. I have told Curzon this by phone twice. Guess what. Not bothered. Strange way to run a business.

Such an exceptional venue! The bar upstairs is also great for a pre movie chill and sometimes they even have a DJ in the evenings.

Once again the Curzon Bloomsbury destroys any credibility with its regular core residential clientele. On a Monday evening at 6.30 pm we were all asked to leave the tables on the terrace to accommodate a very rowdy private party going on inside. An absolute shameful thing to do!
Aren’t you supposed to be about airing and creating an environment of creativity and not pandering to making a fast buck? Shameful!!!!

A lovely cinema featuring the most comfortable seats I've ever experienced.

What made my visit stand out, however, was the service. The screen I wanted was two floors below ground. On descending, I approached the kiosk and asked for a latte, only to be informed that hot drinks were served on the ground floor only. Since I was suffering from the after-effects of falling down a hole, meaning that stairs were a trial, I couldn't face climbing two floors up then two floors down again. Seeing this, the chap serving at the kiosk volunteered to go up and fetch a coffee for me.

If that isn't service above and beyond, I don't know what is.

Since I have been dining upon my Aunty Mildred's famous 'turkey/beef broth' for every meal of the day since NYE (following a new diet trend I heard on Joe Rogan's ENTRANCING podcast), I seem to have filled out my trousers a little more, and squeezing past a row of my fellow film freaks proved a tad more difficult than I had anticipated! However, I did manage to slide into my corner sofa eventually, which had a very agreeable level of bounce! Despite being 5 minutes late for the film after I slipped over in the newly mopped bathroom, the staff were very understanding and let me pass forth, huzzah!

As they say, open doors make up for slippy floors, huzzah!

I am a local resident and also a mature student. So I used to visit Bloomsbury Curzon regularly, at least once a week. Then post-Covid they decided to drop their Student Discount, arguing that they do a discount for under 25s failing to recognise that most postgrads are much older than this, as our those returning to education. The cheapest tickets for those who are students or low-waged are around £13 whereas they used to be around £6 with a discount. Hence I no longer frequent any Curzon cinema since Odean and Vue etc recognise student cards. Ironically, when a friend took me to see an afternoon movie at Curzon the cinema was empty!! So they really have zero argument for this discrimination.
