The area
Neighbourhood: Southbank
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.

Website shows an area packed with bookstalls. On our visit, on a lovely sunny day in June, only one stallholder had bothered to turn up. Seriously false advertising on the website.

The Southbank Book Market is a sight to be seen. Been there for years. Shows you that people still like to read paper books!

We passed by just after 10am on a Saturday morning and there were several tables worth of books to browse around, covered by the bridge to avoid them all getting wet in inclement weather.

Second hand, as a price guide expect books to be half their original sale price.

A worthwhile attraction.

If you've got some time to kill and you're along Southbank, you may enjoy the Southbank Book Market. Everything is well set up and spaced. A few undesirable people hanging around, but still a nice place to be.

A very wide selection of books well displayed and by and large sensibly priced. Less traders on some weekdays but usually still some good/interesting stuff. Prefer mid morning at weekends particularly Sunday.

It was quite an interesting thing to find while walking along the Southbank area, a book market. They have quite a huge range of different books and a special system of paying at the right person sitting on the river end of the market. It was nice to just look around and see what was available.

I have travelled a lot in my life, I was born in London and the southbank is somewhere I love, I take my pup there for a walk and it’s amazing, I love to relax there to people watch to observe what’s going on, I feel at home here, the book market is fantastic I have found many bargains many unusual books and all the sellers are so lovely and really helpful, southbank is brilliant at Xmas time I adore it, wrap up warm get a hot drink mulled wine is sold there it’s perfect, I go to the southbank all through the year and every trip is amazing but Christmas is special, it’s not for everyone but if you want to feel like old Christmas not this spend spend spend attitude that Christmas has turned into just visit grab a drink and watch the world go by it’s lovely, you can pick up a little something special if you want to but there is no pushy selling nonsense it’s relaxed and a stroll along the river Thames is so lovely.

I wasn't actually looking to buy books but just strolling on South Bank and happened to be walking through. It's a pretty cool place and has a nice atmosphere whether you're looking for books or not.
